The BDO, the Arsenal of Darts?

Arsenal is known recently for bringing through players, and then losing them to other teams.
The BDO is known as the breeding ground for the PDCs next big things.

It is fair to say that if Arsenal had retained the likes of Cesc and RvP we would be a lot stronger.
It is fair to say that if the BDO had retained the likes of RvB and MvG then it would be a lot stronger.

There are a few shining lights in the Arsenal team, but people are wondering how much longer until they leave to be replaced by more young unproven players.

Everytime players leave and are replaced, Arsenal lose quality, and thus standards of play erode. At the same time we are strengthening our rivals by letting our best players join them

The gap between Arsenal and the likes of United and City grows each season.

The BDO and Arsenal. Something needs to be done soon to stop the rot!!

Get a Room you two?

I like O' Shea (great bloke), but that's quite disrespectful to Jimmy White.

Jimmy White got to 6 World finals when the best players in the world at the time were playing.

O' Shea, is losing in finals, when most of the best plays are in the PDC. He really should've won last year, couldn't have asked for a better chance.

Jimmy White never lost in a final to a player of Kist's standard.

Fair point just true, I was a massive Jimmy fan when he was in his pomp, the 1992 & 1994 world finals the most gutting. Like you though ( see my profile) I am a huge Ronnie fan ( the best) gutted he ain't at the Masters, snooker just isn't the same without the world champio.

Agreed Wether,

The 1992 World Snooker Final was most disappointing because Jimmy really deserved it and played a peak Hendry off the table for 3/4 of the match.

1994 was more about sentiment and hoping he would somehow cross that line against a Hendry who had broken his arm during the tournament.

So true about Ronnie, so difficult to get interested in Snooker without the World Champ.

As for the darts, would be interesting to see what would happen if Waites and O' Shea left for the PDC. Love the fact that the BDO hasn't gone for the tacky scantily-clad girls and footy songs route, but the quality will be too low were they to lose these two as well.

Waites would do reasonably well.
One thing to remember is that PDC players (the top ones) do not have to work and thus can put in the hardwork on the board. Waites for instance is a carpenter.
I heard the only reason he didn't switch was his wife was ill and he couldn't tour to get ranking points, nor take the risk on the money side.
Going full time would add 5 to 10 points on his average most likely.
Alot of the players who switched to the PDC were not setting the BDO alight with stunning averages or domination, but can more than hold their own in the PDC.

I don't think the young Dutch players work outside of darts, as they seem to be able to attract sponsorship far easier.

I have said before, the BDO should concentrate on the up and coming European market and switch its World Championships to Hollland.
