York City

The official report states that we dominated proceedings - I wouldn't go that far myself. It was a performance best described as 'workmanlike'. We tried to keep the tempo high and the emphasis was clearly on fitness rather than performance.
Somewhat worrying that so many players were forced out of position in order to get 90 minutes - rather spells out certain imbalances within our squad. That said, both Schlupp and Gally looked comfortable in their respective full back roles and young Hopper looked like a natural CB when he came on for Taft (who also looked comfortable).
Other points of note: Conrad saved us on a couple of occasions, Knocky put in a couple of hot-headed challenges when frustration got the better of him, Wood can still bring a ball down on his chest and Nuge looked frustrated for long periods, more at his own lack of fitness I think rather than anything else.
All in all, no shockers but very few quality chances created. A few old faces too with Nigel Worthington now manager at York and Ashley Chambers and Richard Cresswell both in York's starting XI.
A good run out, but not dominant!

I'm not too overly concerned that players were playing out of posistion, remember we played a friendly the night before with a different set of players. Always going to be difficult to get 2 balanced teams - unless you're Sven and want 2 players per posistion. I think we'll see a more balanced (closer to the Boro line up) team on Saturday

Like you said the emphasis was on fitness. Players will get the fitness workout where ever they're playing

TOTF LoL every manager wants two players for every position that why squads are normally 24/25 players.

I didn't even know about this fixture. If it was played at York I'd have gone.

Furthetmore, I'm surprised, and wasn't aware Sheffield United had offloaded Dickie Cresswell. He became the main spearhead at Bramall Lane following Ched Evans's banging-up. Dave Kitson didn't always appear until late in some matches.

I'm starting to sense that 3-5-2 is going to become plan A for next year.

I think last night was 4-4-2. We did not look like scoring until York got tired in the second half. Drinky came into it a bit more then. Interesting to note that he's still got the number 4 shirt so maybe rumours of him going are premature?

The 'other' team was much better against Port Vale the night before.

Not too fussed about results in the pre-season as it's mainly about getting match fit.
