Before the World Cup

Everyone was saying how important it was that we get our business done before the World Cup...
Does anyone think we will sign anyone before it?

I'm not even confident we'll sign anyone. It doesn't seem anyone fancies joing us, but maybe thats just me not having the confidence in 'Woody' after last years transfer window disaster.

It is just something I want to understand, it has become an urban myth.

What exactly did he do wrong last summer?

Don't know would be my honest answer. The truth is that the vast majority on here don't know either.

At the end of the day up to Moyes to value a player unless you want a CEO who interferes with football matters which going by the majority on here is not the case.

However, the club as a whole must do better this summer as that is now the important thing.

No, I have no idea why anyone thought we would have done if van Gaal is our Manager. He's got a responsibility to Holland and once the World Cup has ended for them, he'll focus on us.

Happens every international tournament, the majority of the transfers are done afterwards as players are not willing to discuss their futures. Also, clubs are more willing to sell as all players prices become inflated if they have one good World cup.

MUDD - he made massive eff ups (so did Moyes - I know you think it was only him )

Not tying up the targets was 1.
The Herrera deal was 2 (who were those legal guys?!?) As CEO of United he would have/should have known about them or put a stop to the farce considering all a sundry new we were after him - or not as it turned out.

Fabregas was identified as a trey. Whether he came or not, he is in charge of negotiations. Why did we submit those offers?
He would have been given an indication by barca - cos Cesc did, so why persue it?

He left our tour half way through on 'URGENT BUSINESS' - love to know what was so important considering we only signed fellaini.

Even the fellaini deal - if he knew both were not going to come, should he have not put Moyes in his place an say we will offers the release clause only?

Makes me guff that people will give this clown a pass but lay the buck at someone also new to the role etc.

Gill would never have left SAF in situations like the above.

That is what woody is at fault for

We did not send anyone to Bilbao, how you can blame him for people trying to con a deal is unbelievable. Moyes said the money was a lot to risk and I agreed with him. We sent no one to Bilbao.

=====================

Not sure exactly the point you are making here. We made a speculative bid, it was rejected, the same amount of money they signed Fabregas for and we improved it and the player said he was staying. How is he to blame for the player not wanting to leave?

He left our tour half way through on 'URGENT BUSINESS' - love to know what was so important considering we only signed fellaini.
====================

So leaving on urgent business has to be identified to the fans. He could have left to deal with new sponsors, contracts, a myriad of other things. So now he is at fault for saying he was leaving a tour to handle urgent business? Come on Man.

Even the fellaini deal - if he knew both were not going to come, should he have not put Moyes in his place an say we will offers the release clause only?
====================
How was he to know Baines was not going to come? I am sure Moyes was convinced he will. He said he wanted to sign both together. How is it his fault, Baines decided to stay?

Makes me guff that people will give this clown a pass but lay the buck at someone also new to the role etc.

I have not given anyone a pass, I have said the reasons for hating Woodward are not logical as there is no evidence to support these views.

Gill would never have left SAF in situations like the above.

What situation exactly? Dithering over transfers? That's what he did at Everton which is why he was called dithering Dave.

I am afraid emotive guff is not enough, you need to give me some evidence

Hopefully we're dealing away. But this time Ed is keeping it under raps

Maybe some transfers have been tied up in principle and that we are waiting on LVG to be in post before an official announcement is made.

If Stock Exchange rules mean this is not allowed then I am happy for someone to correct what I'm saying.

I only read the first sentence and thought of the same question, I think it would be difficult to keep any significant signings quiet to be honest.

He bid £25m for Fabregas, sent a "consortium" to sign Herrera making us look a laughing stock, big £25m for both Fellaini and Baines then paid more for Fellaini alone.

This is just the stuff we know about....

Personally, I wanted Moyes to assess the players we had and just buy a top class CMer

However it was clear the club felt different and last Summer what they did do, they did badly. End of

And everyone was at fault, including our new CEO who clearly fekked about.

The Herrera deal is the one that irks me. No way in hell would Moyes have told Woodward to not pay more than 23m. He would not have give a stuff about paying the buyout and why would he. He's a football man. If he wanted him, Woodward should have made it happen instead of haggling over a few lousy million.

Some of the bids we were making stunk of United arrogance to me.

Woodward no doubt has learned a few lessons and won't be making the same mistakes this window hopefully. Something he actually said himself
