Good Morning, ladies and gents.
After saturday, LVG will be coming to Manchester to really get started with us. One of his first jobs will be naming his captain.
My two questions are the obvious ones, Who do you think should get the captaincy? and you do you think LVG will give it to?
My choice would be Rooney - i know he has taken the club for a ride in recent years. It doesn't change my view that he is a legend for us, also he has shown the right leadership qualities in the past. However, i think LVG will chose RVP, for the obvious reasons that he knows him well and he is the captain of The Netherlands.

You are assuming RVP will get the central striker role
How do you know he won't use Rooney there? He may think he's better suited?
I doubt Van Gaal will just play RVP there just because he's dutch, if he thinks Rooney is better equiped
I'd personally be amazed if Rooney is pushed out wide.

Obviously I don't know but based on my personal preference and the fact LVG knows RVP very well and often speaks highly of him and goes on scouting trips with him and made him the Dutch captain would suggest he really really rates RVP.
Like I said, none of us know how LVG will set our team, BUT if he is going with 1 central striker I think RVP right now would be the most likely choice. And again, I have no idea but IF he is going with a midfield 3 then I personally feel that Mata is more suited based on how LVG gets his midfield 3 working and for me Mata is far more in the mould of a Sneijder #10.
But like I say, I don't know, which is why potentially giving Rooney the captaincy COULD be a risk as none of us are sure he will start, especially not centrally.

i absolutely understand that but the factor we don't know is how Van Gaal rates Rooney
My gut says he can't wait to work with him but I have nothing to base that on aside from guesswork and my own poinion of Rooney

Of course we don't, and I agree that LVG will be very exciting working with him, any manager should.
But as well all know and what seems very clear with LVG is that what is best for the team is the best 11 players that can work as a team, not the best 11 individuals and this goes back to my views I've had all along. IMO RVP is a better #9 and Mata and better #10, of course LVG might think completely different to me, who know, either way, it should be exciting to watch.

i just differ in opinion
I think Rooney is the better number 9 and number 10

I know!
Anyway, it doesn't matter what we think, all depends how LVG sees things, like I said it should be interesting.

To be honest I don't really mind who is captain as long as there will be eleven leaders on that pitch performing to the best of their ability for the shirt.
If I had to choose I would choose Rooney as it could be the making of him in terms of making him look at the big picture. A better midfield behind him helps as I don't want to see him charging around to cover others.
People are so quick to dismiss Rooney without looking at the impact he has had on our most succesful period in our history.
The last time he asked to leave to club he did so in a private conversation with SAF. It was SAF who made it public and Rooney acted professionally all through that period for me.

Pro forma, i would make Rooney captain. But he has done little to deserve it.
Says a lot about the sorry state of leaders we have in our squad.

Yet he still got smashed to pieces from all and sundry
All he did was keep his gob shut and got on with things after the reason for him wanting to move on, retired

Correct Macca. It happens. He didn't feel his ambitions were being met so he had a word with his boss like most of us would. I always maintain his problem was with SAF and not United.
