Breaking Traditions

It seems to becoming more and more common for clubs/ sponsors to break the age old traditions of football clubs for marketing purposes.

Newcastle changed their stadium name, Man Utd have a sponsor on the training ground, Cardiff changed their club colours, and it seems quite a few teams have changed their style of kit this summer.

Most noticeably, Inter Milan (and WBA ), who have opted to go from their traditional black and blue stripes to a pinstripe kit.

Maybe West Brom won't kit clash with everyone on Pro Evo now.

And the ridiculous decision at the WC for teams to not wear their traditional colours. Why didn't Germany where white and black the other night ? Why did England where all white and Italy all blue. Brazil white shorts and not blue etc etc

I can live with the training ground being renamed. Did it even have a name before Aon?

FIFA rules stipulate that you must have an all dark and an all light kit I think.

I just think these days there's a paranoia about colour clashes. Not sure why.

That said though, isn't England's home kit all white anyway? I really hate that.

It's all white because it has to be I believe. I do like the all red though.

That's what I mean though. Carrington is just a place. City's training ground is also in Carrington.

Now if they'd renamed The Cliff...

I guess it would help linesmen with offsides/fouls having the different colour shorts/socks. Probably the same reason the Goalie does not wear the same shorts & socks as the outfield players.

But that wasn't consistently so. Some of the SOuth American sides had different colored shorts. Seeing Holland in blue just not right when there were no clashes and for a semi Germnay in that red and black horrible kit. In years to come it will be hard to know who was playing who if you just saw a clip from a game unless you were told
