With the latest injury to Rafael, do people think another winger is now important?
We all rate Rafael and know what he is capable of, but the sad fact is we cannot rely on him to stay fit for a season. Talk of Valencia being an adequate replacement is, for me, ridiculous going by his form as both a right back and a winger in the last 2/3 years.
I think we still need the following to ensure a top 4 finish;
1x Wing Back - preferably versatile enough to cover either side
1x Centre Back - our most important signing for me, needs to be a top drawer player
1x Central Midfielder - to partner Herrera, going by our Roma performance, we couldn't keep possession and we couldn't press the ball quick enough. When playing 3 cb's high up the pitch this leaves opposition midfielders with too much time to pick a pass in behind, I don't see anybody we have able to fill this role, we need pace.

No, Valencia is both useless and has about as inversatile as you can possibly imagine.

Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Shaw, Fellaini, Carrick, Fletcher, Kagawa, Young, Rooney
You really need to buy round pegs for round holes, some position specialists.

we dont though, and thats the problem.
Blind fo example can cover 3 positions and be as good in each one, the players youve listed above, other than maybe the odd one are played in positions that they are nowhere near as competent in, and thats the big difference.

Square pegs round holes, you said it yourself.
We need a couple of players who can effectively play 2/3 positions without dropping in quality. None of those players mentioned can do that.

1) LVG doesn't use the same tactic throughout a single game, never mind a full season. So versatility is important.
2) We have a lot of players to get rid of.
3) We have no CL football to think of this season.
4) We'd have to spend around £200m.
