Bad Booking - Seth Rollins

Just been listening to the Steve Austin podcast (download them if you haven't already) and in the latest instalment, he's asked about heels in the modern era.

Eventually he spoke about Seth Rollins and I couldn't have put it better myself. He basically said and no offence to Rollins here but the booking team are turning him into a wuss. Exploding suitcases with green goo, threatening to cash in the MITB and then running away.

Austin said that he would have never have been booked like that and If he had, his character would have suffered.

Rollins is one of the best talents on the current roster and they should be putting missiles on the guy.

Completely agree 100% with Steve Austin on this one.

I've always asserted that Rollins is a guy who lives within that character framework of a number 2 anti hero, an "on the shoulder guy" a guy who isnt quite charismatic enough to pull off a paradigm shifting set of promos or indeed close a show with a moment of arena shudder ring presence.

Its the Brian Pillman mould which also includes Ziggler! The chance for Zig BTW was bk when he should have been booked in to come full circle with Swagger for the whc but I digress.

Rollins cannot exist on his own because of his character stable, so the E are throwing ridiculous scenarios his way! This desperation on the E's part to save a badly booked Rollins push, has turned out to be rather russoriffic.

The way WWE book all their heels is desperate, you go into two categories (middleweights and under are 'the weasel', heavyweights and above are 'the monster'. It's a consequence of having so few unanimous baby faces.

To be honest though as Rollins' booking goes I've got hardly any compliments on it. The fact he has HHH behind him makes the difference, he comes across more savvy than the typical undersized weasel. And he does have his moments (e.g. demanding HHH put Ambrose in the MITB match in July).

They're giving Rollins a fair shake with their booking right now. Out of the three Shield members he was always the one that was going to need some help to get over, credit to them for seeing that and doing something about it.

Coming up to two years since The Shield angle began and still no major booking errors with them. It's almost like WWE know what they're doing for once?

Mike, am I the only wrestling fan on earth who doesn't think Vince Russo is the anti-Christ?

He is responsible for so much happiness, but so much sadness in equal measure.

I've always thought one half of the perfect wrestling mind belongs to Vince Russo. If he was partnered with someone who he listened too, who had a more conservative approach but shared his love for characters, drama and innovation - you have the ideal writing team for any wrestling promotion. Think it's a shame his bad ideas seem to leave more lasting impressions than his good ones.

I tell you this, if WWE still had Vince Russo pitching in his two cents watching Raw three straight hours would be a lot less of a chore.

The green spray was by far the worst thing either Rollins or Ambrose have been involved in. Given how they've (brilliantly) packaged Ambrose, there could have been so much more in that case. A snake maybe, or even "excrement" of some sort! Seth could even have closed the case really quickly making everyone wonder just what it was inside there, less is more if you will. Obviously you'd have to think that through a bit more as you'd need an eventual reveal, but you get the point.

Champers if Russo was writing that part, id bet u would see that case being empty apart from a small box which when opened caused a vat of money to fall from the sky, the directions that could go in are phenomenal.

I'd make him give birth to a hand

Interesting viewpoints, I couldn't see Rollins in the same mould as Austin, so while he has a point about HIS character, it doesn't really apply.

Besides which, that early in his WWF/WWE career, surely SA would have done as he was told, just like Rollins is now?

Hello Metro as you can see, I'm back, at least for this morning, thought I'd pop by and show my internet face.
