Chelsea youth

Just saw our under-18's won 8-3 away at Aston Villa to go 8 points clear at top of league (wouldn't mind typing a similar sentence later today).

That makes it 20 goals in two games against the Villains (beat them 12-2 in the reverse fixture). This might lead you to think Villa must be rubbish but actually they're the team that's second in the table!

Our youngsters have amassed 76 goals in 21 games (all competitions)!

Surely, there's got to be at least one player in that crop with a chance of making 'the big leap'?

You've got to remember though U18's is still like junior football. Its still only just a step up from academy level and Sunday league level and you score more than a bag full of goals at that level.

Tammy Abraham already has 26 goals this season, and Solanke has like 24.

Just saw that. I still have a lot of hope for Chalobah. Pleased he's being given a chance at Reading. Perhaps Burnley should have done that.

ggg, it's a little better than that. Admittedly, you don't get many 0-0's but the hammerings aren't as frequent as you imagine.

To use poor Villa as the example again, they let in 20 in two games v Chelsea but only 23 in their other 16 games.

I say time and time again that our youngsters are some of the best in Europe and would definitely do well for the 1st team if given a proper chance.

But I get shut down by posters claiming that our youth players failure to get into the 1st team is purely down to them not being good enough and that if they were good enough they'd be playing for us already (just like Pogba for United right?).

Our academy is such a waste in terms of supplying the senior team. Yes, it's a good money spinner but it could be so much more if we didn't waste money on average squad players (e.g. Salah) and just promoted from within a bit more often.

What manager is safe at Chelsea to have the first team filled with yoof, to then have off days/losses, without getting a Garden cheque ?

Can't blame the managers we had or have

At a club that challengers for titles/CLs we can't be bring if youth in much, Every game is must win.

It's nice to bring younger players through but it's doesn't bother me much, When we won in Munich I wasn't at all disappointed we didn't start any youth players. (Bertrand was a 1st teamer). Who really cares about yoooooof?

I agree. Mind you he has already proved himself in the Championship, although hopefully this move will give him gametime he missed at Burnley and more confidence. It's also a shame FIFA stopped him going to Bordeaux because he made an appearance for our U21s Same reason why Ben Arfa can't play for Nice until next season (he made an appearance for Newcastle's U21s this season)
