DL Results: Season 2: Week 13

Division 1
Arsenal 1-2 Basingstoke Town
Arsenal scorer: Sigurdsson (Ibrahimovic)
Basingstoke scorers: Rossi (Pen), Quintero
MOTM: Quintero – Was at the heart of everything Basingstoke did today.

The Game:
Arsenal kept Basingstoke quiet throughout the first half and made it difficult for the Title chasing side to get through on goal only limiting Quintero with a few long range efforts that were well saved by Bravo. However, after the break Basingstoke came out with a let’s get this match done with attitude. First Gago fouled Rossi in the box and the ref points to the spot. The Italian himself steps up and scores the penalty on 48 mins. Just ten minutes later Quintero finally got the better of Bravo and doubled Basingstoke’s lead with a 30 yarder strike. After all the changes from Basingstoke, Arsenal hit them when they were cold and Cole crossed a lovely low ball into the box for Ibrahimovic to hold up and Sigurdsson fired the ball into the net from Ibrahimovic’s knock down. All in all I thought Arsenal would hold their own in the first half but would tire as the match would go on but felt that whilst Basingstoke’s subs were bedding in that Arsenal had the quality to get a goal.

’s
Arsenal: Gago, Beilek
Basingstoke: Teixeria, Rode, Carvalho

Slots:
Arsenal 4 + (2 home advantage)
Basingstoke: 6
Draw: 5

Blyth Spartans 4-0 Andover Town
Blyth scorers: Zaza x2 (Jese, Dyer), Jese (Dyer), Gabbiadini
MOTM: Jese – was at the heart of everything that went well for Blyth today.

The game:
Not much to say really it was men against boys today,

’s:
Blyth: Toni, Williams, Bonaventura
Andover: Wilson, Brannagan, Abdulrahman

Slots:
Blyth: 8 + 2 (home advantage)
Andover: 2
Draw: 5

Fishguard Sports 1-1 Sekhukhune Lions
Fishguard scorer: Fischer (Biglia)
Sekhukhune scorer: Lacazette (Jorginho)
MOTM: Jorginho – Was one player on the park that looked like making something to happen.

The Game:
Truth be told these two couldn’t be separated and played a similar type of game canceling each other out. Jorginho looked like the only one to try and do something to get this game going but like I said both sides matched each other in every area.

’s:
Fishguard: Bernardeschi, Praet
Sekhukhune: Krychowiak, Vertonghen, Jorginho

Slots:
Fishguard: 5 + (2 home advantage)
Sekhukhune: 5
Draw: 5

Southend United 2-2 Stockport County
Southend scorers: Welbeck (wonderstrike), Sturridge (Ox)
Stockport scorers: Aguero (Draxler), Costa (Ings)
MOTM: Schneiderlin – he worked his socks off all game and never stopped.

The game:
The game was a midfield battle and both sides were equally as strong as each other in that section of the pitch. Plus up front both sides were equally as good and I really couldn’t separate the two sides. Welbeck opened the scoring when he found some free space and stroke the ball from outside the box. Stockport immediately replied 2 minutes later with Rakitic and Draxler combining and set up Aguero for their goal. Both sides made impact subs too, Sturridge finding the net after Ox found a bit of room. Whilst just on the pitch for two minutes Ings set up Costa and the Brazilian turned Spanish international earned Stockport a draw.

’s:
Southend: Pjanic, Howard, Mustafi, Bony
Stockport: Rakitic, Ings

Slots:
Southend: 5 + (2 home advantage)
Stockport: 5
Draw: 5

Taiwan 3-2 Mandems

A really good game this...Ludy switches away from his 4-3-2-1 and goes to a 4-3-3 showing some attacking intent which for me is a big plus

Trebs has taken it more seriously this week and had a fair share of the slots....I liked his set up and think against most teams it would work....BUT going narrow today I felt man for man his midfield would be over-ran by Taiwan.....he forced them wide in his tactics which played into Ludy's hands as that's what he wanted to play anyway

Mandems counter-attacking would deffo hurt Ludy's set-up but I felt by sitting back also invites too much trouble...a draw may have been fair but a narrow home win keeps Ludy bang in the hunt for promotion

Goals:
Tevez (Bellarabi) Clever wing play before a nice drag back for Carlito to stroke home

Ba (Suarez) Back on terms as Ba reacts quickest after Navas fumbled a power driver from Suarez

Suarez (Freekick) Mandems take the lead after a sweetly struck set-piece from Suarez on the edge of the box

Fabregas (Matic) Taiwan are level again after a lovely little one-two on the edge of the box between the Chelsea double pivot, before Cesc rides a couple of challenges and slots the ball under the keeper.

Matic (Cesc) - Cescy baby repays the favour by picking out the giant midfielder at the back stick with a lovely free-kick from deep

Bookings:
Taiwan - Tevez, Cheryshev, Matic, Shaw
Mandems - Pepe, Xhaka, Downing

MOTM - Suarez, unlucky to be on the losing side today a really good performance from the Uruguayan a goal and an assist, can't ask for more

Slots:

Taiwan - 6+2 home adv
Mandems - 4
Draw - 5

Trebs for your benefit Ludy's Starting XI

——————————— Navas
Coleman — Musacchio — Laporte — Shaw
——————————— Matic
———————— Alonso — Fabregas
Bellarabi ———————————————— Cheryshev
——————————— Tevez

SC Cambuur v FL Fart

If you'd ask the average football fan who would win this game and gave them both sides team sheets you'd probably forgive them for saying Fart were the favourites...they had the big names in Vidal, Toure and Insigne but Cambuur have something that money can't buy a real understanding about them and a passionate home crowd...this made the game a very exciting affair.

The game was a real midfield battle Kondogbia, Toure and Vidal are scary opponents to have infront of you but Mario in particular rose to this challenge and seemed to be everywhere!

Insigne looked a bit lost in the game and wasn't really used to his full potential, as a lone striker he was constantly found out by the Cambuur defence and I never felt like he got enough time to put the defenders under any real pressure in the first half.

Mario should have allowed Cambuur to go in at half time with the lead as Icardi found some space on the edge of the box, his lofted ball in landed on Mario's bonce but he was under the ball and it was way off target...a let off for the Fart boys.

The first goal will have frustrated Mr Baskets and he will be having words with his team I would imagine.

Ocampos was guilty of being what can only be describes as a massive bellcake and tried a very idiotic backheel on the half way line, this was picked off by Shaqiri who got his head down and ran at the Cambuur defence, he got himself inside the box and tapped the ball on to the onrushing Yaya Toure who fired the ball with so much power Horn was unable to stop it despite getting a hand to the ball.

With Cambuur looking for the goal the game became a little more open as the half continued and it was due to this openness that Fart were able to get themselves a second. Vidal this time winning the ball in the middle of the park from Imbula, he quickly spotted Pritchard on the run and his fresh legs allowed him to get the run on Sule and his scuffed finish went underneath the diving Horn.

Cambuur did try and get back into the game but with such an impressive midifled who were able to control the tempo Fart didn't allow too much to get towards their defence.

Cambuur had their chances but needed to be more clinical on the day.

Full Time result:

Cambuur 0-2 FL Fart

Goal Scorers: Toure (Shaqiri), Pritchard (Vidal)

Cambuur 4: Mitrovic, Ocampos, Horn, Imbula
Fart 3: Toure, Pritchard, Shaqiri

MOTM: Vidal, vitally important at breaking down Cambuur as Insigne wasn't able to get into the game today and likewise superb when needing to get stuck in when the Cambuur midfield got forward.

Miami Fusion v Notts County

Notts showed early promise in this match and in particular Dybala who got free within the first two minutes but wasn't composed enough with his finish skying it.

With both teams opting for 3 at the back the game was stretched and was very back and forth with both keepers making some good saves early doors.

David De Gea showed his talent when reaching a Destro shot that seemed destined to go into the top corner and his manager will be very thankful that his Spanish keeper seems to get better and better game on game.

The half ended 0-0 however and the game was very equal. Casteels and De Gea both making some fine saves but both sets of strikers should have done a bit better.

Into the second half and it was Miami who nearly snuck one in, Torres found by Barkley managed to wiggle around Bonucci and flash a shot across the goal, it had beaten the Notts keeper but was just wide of the mark.

The best chance of the game fell to Iturraspe who was found on the cut back by Isco, the Notts man had what seemed like an age to pick his spot but completely fluffed his lines and sent it way over the bar.

As the game neared the end it seemed incredible we hadn't seen a goal and in fairness you'd have to say by the 80th minute Mex's boys were hammering away at the door but Fan and his bunch of warriors stood firm!

As the whistle blew we all came away somewhat disappointed that we hadn't seen a goal but entertained none the less.

Full Time:

Miami 0-0 Notts County

Miami 2:Destro, Torres
Notts 4: Sanchez, Vrsaljko, Baba, Iturraspe

MOTM: Casteels - Made some vital saves towards the end of the game and managed to keep what looked an unlikely clean sheet

Yeah exactly how I thought he'd line up, wasn't sure who would be LM.

Just thought if I forced him wide his only.option would be to cross and I can't see their attacking players winning balls from crosses.against my defense. But his midfield is excellent

Was a genuinely close game Trebs...as I say 6/4 on the slots is very close...his midfield was worth the extra slots...the plus 2 home advantage was the difference maker made it look more one sided....

Think next season the home adv needs to drop to +1

Would playing illaramendi over downing had made a difference? I had that originally to close down his midfield but decided it was too.defensive,

I really like Illarra....a ball playing DM if you get me...can be too defensive but against a trio as strong as Ludy's and Haaks Yer I think would help...that said Downing has done well this season at the 'ammers
