Money or Manager?

Seen as though AVB threw all of the Bale money on his players, what is it we need most, money or a manager?

In terms of money, I think it's fair to say some of our signings haven't turned out to be as good as we first thought. The likes of Soldado and Lamela admittedly, haven't been worth the money paid for them. Also, players such as Capoue and Paulinho have been no better than average as well. But, we have spent well elsewhere. Lloris and Eriksen have been good buys and Dembele I think has been a good player for us.

In terms of management, we have been chopping and changing for far too long without giving our players chance to settle under one system. I feel now Pochettino has had a full season to get his ideas across to the players, we might start moving forward. We have had a solid season, a good position in the league and we have got points where we have needed to which is a good sign. Next step, Champions League football.

I do believe we need to spend a little bit more money, just so Pochettino can get the players he wants in. I'm all for selling the deadwood like Capoue, Paulinho, Adebayor etc. But they need to be replaced with the players Pochettino wants and they have to be useful under his system. I don't feel we need to be spending loads of money anymore now, we just need a similar group of players every season with a couple of extras to improve the squad and to give our manager a good few seasons to get us into the Champions League eventually.

It's not going to be a summer's job, but it needs to be taken in little steps. It might take a few seasons, but the time and effort will be worth it. We are a good side with some good players, we just need a good, solid manager with good philosophies to go with it. I believe Pochettino is the right man for the job.

You can throw money at anything, doesn't mean it'll work. Just look at the feeble return Real Madrid and thatPerez have got in the last 6 seasons.

A good manager will extract the maximum of what he's got at his disposal which is what we need as we simply don't have equal or superior quality to the team's that finished above us.

Champion's league and Copa del rey last season...

Won the same amount of trophies in 6 years as Atletico have. I'd hazard a guess that Real have spent more in that time

I guess it does seem Ancelotti has done poor when you open it up a little bit more. But when you look at what he has won you can see why he is still in a job. Plus, you can't win everything every year.

If Ancelotti was interested I'd be happy if he replaced Poch

I'd probably still prefer Pochettino.

I don't rate Poch in general, never wanted him when he was first linked with us and went mental when I heard on the radio he had been hired

Pochettino is head coach, the managers name is Levy

Sorry, didn't mean to throw the discussion off course!

Back to the debate at hand. If you look at SAF or even Benitez at Liverpool in 08/09, they managed to make the most of what they've got. Fergie's last squad wasn't exactly stellar - they had the likes of Cleverley, Anderson, Nani and Valencia for example - and won the league comfortably.

Benitez went extremely close with the likes of Benayoun, Kuyt, Riera and Babel.

I still cannot believe that people are saying AVB blew the money. Levy and Baldini should be getting the blame for that."

Exactly. Not sure how or why Avb gets the blame when he was desperate for Moutinho but didn't get him. If anything it's Baldini and the bald one
