Fiorentina 1-2 Fishguard
Iniesta (NDJ); Zivkovic (Klassen), Van Beek (OG)

MOTM: Tino's Grass/Inler - Tino had his groundsman sprinkle steroids onto the pitch today, which really slowed the game up and did its job. Other than that, Inler was an absolute menace to Welshy's attack, and completely cut off the main source of Fishguard's forward momentum. Picked up a silly yellow to mar a great performance, however.

Yellows: Fiorentina - Dede, De Sciglio, Inler; Fishguard - Klassen, Stark

Slots: Fiorentina 7+HA, Fishguard 3

Review:

Well, well, well, the late kick off excited today! Well... It would've done had we been able to see the ball. At over a foot tall, the groundsmen had apparently 'missed patches' (read, all of it) across the pitch when mowing it, in a bid to slow up the slick passing game that Welshy has become famous for. It didn't really work, because the Welshmen had fitted his players boots with Gillette razors (the best a man can get) which eventually scythed down most of the protruding greenery.

Low grass or not, however, Welshy's team really came up against it today. With an emphasis on attacking down the left, with Dudziak and Fischer, Fishguard ran into the strongest flank of Tino's brigade. Inler was constantly shuttling across to slam a tackle home, and when he couldn't NDJ and Lichesteiner combined to harry Fishguard out of play.

However, against the run of play Fishguard struck! Gaudinho swung a crossfield ball to Zivkovic, and a short one two with Klassen saw Zivvy zip in behind De Sciglio before arching a shot over Casillas and in off the far post.

Tino was furious. You could say he was managing Furiousentina.

A sharp word with Iniesta saw the Italians wake up. De Jong went in heavily to smash the ball of Odegaard on the halfway line, where it dipped into Iniesta's path. Slaloming in and out of Welshy's fluid DM structure he found himself with a few yards of space, tapping it onto his right foot he powered the ball home, again, the ball going in off the far post.

It looked like it might stay like that until the end, although some late flurries from Fiorentina could've secured a vital three points. But then, with what proved to be the final touch of the game, a corner - won really quite well by Fischer - was swung in, and as Van Beek climbed to attack it, a little nudge from a Fish Guardian of the Galaxy threw his calculations off. It bounced off the side of his head, and left Casillas stranded as it hit the back of the net.

Points:

Welshy - I wouldn't read too much into the slots being quite wide. It just so happened that a good set of tactics played into the strengths of Tino's today.

Tino - I like it. Unlucky!
