Outdated Football fans/Modern fans

That's my issue as well. It's not a working mans game anymore. I see so many tourists at Anfield it's unreal. The plus point is how much money they pump into the local economy.

you can't go back, when I see a match from the 90s and earlier, I'm horrified at the naive way of playing. two boxers going toe to toe.

It was more exciting but only because we were too ignorant to see how dumb it was.

You had to be there to realise the excitemeex and talent on display is the same in both eras.

It seemed that every team had at least one Neanderthal centre half, one midfield nutter, a lazy socks down winger and a thirty goal a season poacher when I was a kid.

Seeing as you are comparing wages, can you tell me any footballer in 1901 who was earning 600 times as much as the average weekly wage, like Rooney is on his £300 grand a week, as compared to most guys if they are lucky earning £500 a week.

Oh boohoo! If you can tell me why Wayne Rooney paying £36,400,000 over 5 years in taxes is a bad thing then I'll give it a go.

Is it because Doctors should get paid more? Well take away Rooneys £36.4m and the Premier Leagues £2.4billion (and rising) annual tax bill and you'll probably find that they get paid a lot less.

Out of touch with the modern fan? Well if you want to cap wages at double the average wage like they did in 1901 then the sport you (used to) love will quickly disappear. How about that for out of touch?

You have nothing but the ramblings of a bitter old man. Football is better than it's ever been, but I can imagine that's hard to see if you spend the whole time crying about how much money the players make - even if in some way you probably benefit from it.

I don't blame the players, we all want to earn as much as we can.

The adminstrators are more to blame as things like FFP have caused hikes in ticket prices and have done nothing to prevent another 'Leeds' or 'Portsmouth' happening.

As opposed to teams not funded by a random billionaire trying to keep up in an unregulated world and increasing ticket prices to fund this.

I remember back in the 90s when I was a lad passing Alan Shearer at his prime begging on the streets. I had just come from another match and didn't really feel like talking to him because half of my team had died from tackles during the game which was par for the course in those days and so it should be. The only consolation I had was that I myself had killed a black player with a rock during the match which was mandatory at the time so I was not banned from future matches. That was the one thing keeping a smile on my face. Those were the days.
