Anyone else think the Idris Elba tweet "The names Elba, Idris Elba" was the producers testing the waters to see what the reaction would be on social media if a Black Bond was actually hired for the role?
With the latest back-track tweet from Elba has the reaction been too negative for the producers to take the risk?
For anyone who cares I think changing a character's established race in the name of "progression" is pretty stupid. And it's not just because the characters white. If the next Jackie Chan was cast as a white or black man I think that would be equally stupid.
Dont understand why they can't do a revamp of the series. Why not have a British secret agent who is a black man or woman but as a different 00 rather than 007? And during the film have a brief mention of 007 and how he has influenced the plot off camera?

Bond still rakes in huge money. they dont need to change it. If people want different things fine, theres a market for that as well.

The problem with making a new character is that the hype wouldn't be the same. I agree though, James Bond is James Bond, and changing the race or gender of the character is kind of too much.

You make a good point about it being an established caráchter. Bond is white, end of. But they'll fack it up anyway just because they want to jump on the pc bandwagon.

Would be a strange move imo. Imagine a white person playing black panther a few movies down the line...wouldn't make much sense.
On the flip side, would be interesting to see. People moaned about Tom Cruise playing Jack reacher, so would be amusing to see people lose it other this if it happened.
