Password Storage Solutions

Sorry bit of a stepaway from the billion Jose articles. Don't say we didnt tell you about Jose though

Can anyone explain to me in layman's terms how these password storage websites work

The firm I work for have pretty much use the same password for all kinds of websites. We handle and hold client's financial information and deal with HMRC on behalf of the client

How can I use a password storage solution to help secure our passwords?

Would I need to change all my passwords? Can we use the encrypted password this solution provides us to log in to every single website? How does it work?

Thanks in advance.

Also might help checking with your Risk Manager - as putting password to sensitive docs in a 3rd party location sounds like a big no no.

Have you considered VPN and/or one of the token systems (either an app or keyring that gives you an ever changing password)?

You must ensure all passwords are secure and encrypted or you'll be in breach of GDPR!! A massive fine too

I don't know who is this third party is but I am guessing you will need to pass to them your clients login details that's very dodgy ground.
But let's move on from that, once you have over handed over the data, they'll run it through their encryption algorithm and encrypt and save it in a database I am guessing.

When you require any password they have the cipher key so they can unencrypt it and send it to you. Hopefully this is done over an SSL connection!

I use an excel spreadsheet for all my passwords/log on details and that is encrypted and password protected with a unique password not used elsewhere. Seems to have worked ok for the lady’s 10-15 years

It is really dependant on how the data is stored and what's is encrypted

But GDPR has changed few ruffled few feathers in how to handle sensitive client data!

To answer your last question, I doubt they'll give an encrypted password to use. Encrypted passwords are in general Gobbledygook, not easy to remember a bunch numbers and letters!I

So can you elaborate more on them so I can help you?

I use Bitwarden on my mobile. Can only open the app with a fingerprint.
