Ben Davies

From Alasdair Gold;

"Ben Davies doesn't stop talking to those around him and across the pitch. Dishing out praise and encouragement to those attackers who come back to defend".

The player virtually spoke to Bergwijn the whole game. Communicating and helping the young winger out".

No wonder Jose loves him, encouraging attackers to defend

Seriously though I've actually rated him for a while now, he is solid at LB and a superb defender. Yeah he isn't great going forward like Rose was but he is brilliant at the back.

Questions is, would you keep him as first choice or look to improve LB position with another signing?

Keep him first choice now. He has done little wrong in the last two games. Jan looks to be his understudy for the rest of the season. Next season? We have a Tanganga to come back who can fill in for Jan once he leaves and Sess to come in, if Jose decides to attack from the left plus young Cirkin who has been training with the first team squad as well.

I think we have more pressing issues in the squad which need addressing such as a DM, CB cover and a right back to compete with Aurier. Next on my list would be a forward to cover Kane unless young Troy can fill that void??

Good points

Has anyone heard much about Cirkin? He seems to be highly rated.

Probably you need to ask MK, he told us how good Winks and Skipp were going to be.

Filters me yet can’t stop mentioning me

Cirkin is a huge talent but couple years away minimum imo

Btw winks is a England international and played over 100 games for us so yes I put him in the good list.

Now let’s talk about joe thought Lo Celso was rubbish and we definitely wasn’t signing him?

I like Davies, he’s the budget Abidal.

Probably a little unfortunate that his type of fullback is outdated

He suits the tactics Jose is playing, slips in as an extra centre back and allows Aurier to attack.

It’s no surprise we’ve seen some good performances from Aurier the last 2 games and our defence has looked better.

Has a reliable left peg, and yes I reckon in a back three is where he plays best.

This.... I think he's a poor full back in the modern game, I think he's a solid defender in back 3 but offers next to nothing going forward. While I'm not fan of Aurier, he at least is an effective attacking option going forward when the team is loaded with attacking wide players who always cut inside. Our lack of attacking threat on the left side is painful to watch.

Id have no problem seeing Davies Play the left side of back 3 or LB away from home against a good team where we might not have much of the ball. Would like to see much more of Sessegnon at home when we should be on the front foot more

Reliable, good to sit and hold in a Maurinho system, probably ok for a mid-table club

I've always said what a good player Davies is , glad it's finally being recognized.

Davies is an okay LB but nothing more.
He was played in the center for Wales and did very well there. Might actually be a better CB.
However, he is somewhat lightweight and not the fastest runner back.
Also lacks vision and centering has never been more than average.
Danny Rose was a much better LB...I say was... and was the class of back we need.
Oh for the old days of Walker and Rose ....but those ain't coming back!
