FOREST v CARDIFF - Match Thread

Well, a big test for our 1st home game of the season

Cardiff are a tough team at the best of times, but going on how we played at home last season, and the fact we’ve already started poorly this season, I don’t feel at all hopeful about this one

It’ll be interesting to see if the manager has learnt anything at all and more importantly whether he’s prepared to change things around, especially when playing at home - if he insists on playing a lone striker at home, then I truly give up - surely with the acquisitions we’ve made this season, he’ll chance playing 2 strikers

It remains to be seen, and it’s early days, but the pressure is on for the team and the manager to start picking up some points - it would be great if we could put on a strong, convincing performance and get the a win, especially as it’s live on TV

Let’s hope so, and make sure we put down a strong marker, which highlights our intent, capability and strength to the rest of the League

Anything less, and I’ll seriously start to think it’s all over for him

Sabri must stay. And not just until Christmas, but way past that. I’ll tell you why.

If he goes a new manager will bring in more players increasing the size of the squad even more. And the size of the squad is a major cause in us being where we are.

He should stay and by this time the club needs to shed at least a dozen preferable about twenty players. The likes of Darikwa, Jenkinson, Dawson, Figuerido, Hefele, Bong, and Benalouane have no future at the club and are taking nearly £100K a week out of the club. And that is just the back four.

If this drastic action means starting next season in League 1 with the likes of Gabriel, Soh, Mighten, and Johnson starting every week I’ll settle for that.

I for one would never settle for life in league one. Not under any circumstances. It’s a hell of a difficult league to languish in, ask any Sunderland fan.

Even if Sabri stays we should have enough to be at least mid table, albeit lower mid table, there should certainly be at least 4 teams worse than us, but we shouldn’t be talking like this. If we are in trouble at the end of October I don’t see any way he will survive. The key question now is do the players believe in him and his philosophy, personally I doubt it. Huddersfield is a difficult place to go at anytime but they are currently in the same position as us. I doubt Fridays game will be a classic, but let’s see if our second half performance today will at least force Sabri to change his pretty dire negative tactics.

Is Figs trying to play like David Luiz?

Figs has cost us two goals now. The guy is our new Danny Fox!!

1st half was awful. Tactics were....the same as always.

Second half was better. Some decent performances also. Just no cutting edge.

It’s early days yet, but the signings make sense:

Blackett / Soh > Figs
Christie > any of our RBs.
Colback > Watson (too slow)
Freeman > Carvalho / Silva (injured)
Taylor > Grabban (when he’s not finishing)

Diallo - back up goalie needed,
Bachirou - might take time to adapt
Guerrero - looked decent.

I think we’ve brought in decent players, but it’s going to take time. Cash and Watson were two of the reasons we did well last season.

It’s clear that we need to get rid of players:

Adamoah
Benny
Bong
Clough
Darikwa
Hefele
Jenkinson
Watson

I think two of the above were signed by Sabri.

Imo we are still looking for a DM as Sow isn’t going to play much, if at all. A LW, possibly Murphy.

I feel we have the players and in about 5 or so games, we’ll know if we have the manager.

Rev sounds like a Derby fan trying to be Rev. You’ll use any reason (validated or not), to bash Sabri. Yes, the tactics have been poor....but we’re not miraculously going to get results when we’ve replaced key areas (CB, RB, DM and CM) and we’re trying to play two up top for the first time in years?

Patience is required. Last season is now irrelevant. I’m judging Sabri on this one, with this personnel.

If Figs gives away two goals, it’s Figs fault.
If Cash wants to leave for 16m, we let him leave.
If Sow is injured? It’s a huge loss.
If Watson is too old, he needs to be replaced.
If Grabban is missing sitters. It’s Grabban’s fault.
If we have a bloated squad we can’t get rid of, most are not Sabrii’s signings.

None of the above are Sabri’s fault. They are also facts.

However, Sabri’s tactics are poor and he isn’t getting results. Not sure if he has until the first international break, the Derby game, or the second international break, but the clock isn’t just ticking, the alarms going off!!

I think the only reason he has a job is because the fans aren’t at the games. He’d be long gone otherwise.

Evangelos Soprano didn't get to where he is without some business acumen and a few warehouses full of cement.  While whatever goes on behind the scenes is obviously a black box, if he expects a return on his gyrating albatross of a second football club it would be a willful dereliction not to be presently sounding out Howe and Hughton (though as far as Howe is concerned, he's a Premier League manager who as far as I know doesn't have a Jesus complex and soft spot for lost causes).  While Lamouchi clearly unified his squad for most of last season, his obsessively regressive do no concede approach ultimately failed.  Playing in a second-tier league with relative player parity, and having a more than adequate first team squad by Championship standards, there's no excuse not to attempt to play the kind of football that actually gets teams promoted (2016/17 Huddersfield being a Sabrian aberration). Here's hoping for a death bed conversion.

I'll give you a heads up for Friday chaps.

I'm normally a doom and gloom merchant, but from what I've seen so far, we're not too bad tbh. Granted we've lost our first two league games to Norwich and Brentford, but that was to be expected.

We lost to Norwich from a sloppy back pass, we were still in it with Brentford until the 86 th minute, we hit the post too at 1-0 having lost our two best defenders to injury in the first half (Schindler and Toffolo)

Karlan Grant is on his way out, so he doesn't bother getting changed these days, we got Danny Ward on a free transfer from Cardiff and now he's injured. Even Diakhaby has been getting a game but he showed his true colours yesterday and was hauled off.

We've just signed an Ajax wonder kid on loan and our style of play looks fairly decent. We need to sell Grant and invest in a half decent striker and we'll be fine.

God knows what Friday will bring, but I think we'll be fine this season once things have been resolved in house.

=======================

Some of you lot on here make me laugh

You criticise me for what I say and how I say it, then in the next breath - just repeat what I’ve said albeit koi in a different manner

I said the tactics were wrong AGAIN from the start - the attitude was all wrong AGAIN from the start - and the post match interview from the manager was AGAIN repetitive, boring, tripe that we hear week in, week out - but yet nothing is changing

Now, here’s my conclusion:

1. The manager hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing, and hasn’t realised that other teams have figured out on how to play against out stake system, and he’s just burying his head in the sand hoping things will pick up
2. That he’s actually telling the players to adapt, but they’re not listening to him, and instead doing what they want irrespective of the tactics given

Either way, what we’re seeing is no real change in our approach, attitude, tactics, overall performance - we start off lacklustre, uninterested, slow and not focused, until we go a goal or two behind, then we suddenly click into gear and start playing - but it’s too late, cos we’re then chasing the game

This is the manager’s responsibility, if he’s too blind to see that what we’re doing isn’t working and adapt, he’s out of his depth, if the players aren’t playing for him, then he’s lost the dressing room

Just because lay it on the line more harshly or passionately doesn’t make me any less of a supporter - were in a results business, and if results and performances and attitudes continue to go this way, then the manager will be out of a job, irrespective of how harshly or nicely I say it

So Mr Manager, pretty please with a nice pink ribbon on top - GET A FCKIN CLUE, AND GET THE TEAM PLAYING LIKE WE KNOW THEY CAN!!!

Interesting point made another supporter:

‘I find comments here generally interesting and always varied. We have many fans who think SL should be fired sooner than later ( of which I am one ) whilst others feel he should be given time. I have seen comments saying Rome wasn't built in a day and other comments saying give him half a season or give him 15 games.
So far this season we have played 3 games, have not scored a goal and lost all 3. In a few weeks if we have played ( for example ) 9 games, scored no goals and lost every game is that still too soon to fire SL? should he still be given half a season? should he still get 6 more games to make it 15 or will a 0-0-9 GF 0 GA 18 0pts record mean that you too think he should go. There is always a fine line to when a club should get rid of a manager. IF after 15 games we have a 0-0-15 GF 0 GA 30 0pts record not only is that too much time for SL but we would go down. I know that scenario is fictional but I hate to point it out but so far that is happening. Of course it's extreme but the point Im making is when will those giving him time decide oooops too late. Thank goodness the last 20 games are not the first 20 of this season.’

UTTER, UTTER RUBBISH, at least we are in our right league position, 3rd from bottom.... Totally ashamed of at least 6 first teasers. SL needs to go now or we will be fighting relegation all season. Get rid of SL , Howe is available, look how well he’s done at Bournemouth on a shoestring, what could he achieve for us.. Getting totally fed up of defensive football with foreign players who have no idea of how to cope in our league.. Won’t be renewing my ticket or paying to watch this pathetic rubbish online anymore...

If we don't get at least a point against Udders he needs to go unfortunately.
He isn't learning from his mistakes or from the clubs history, we play attacking football of some form. He seems to have wrung the confidence out of the squad.
Marinakis ain't going to give him 2 years from now to get his act together.
