Derby County 0 - 1 Preston North End

Boxing Day
Pride Park
Derby

1500
26th Dec 2020

The game we all look forward to, the Boxing Day fixture which under normal times we would all have been salivating at with the taste of turkey and the sour whiskey on our breath but normal times it ain't and whilst teams in Europe play to a live audience we are still behind the curve.

Disappointment at the postponement last week when it was felt we were on a bit of high which we could have sustained. But we go again tomorrow and confidence is high.

Don't know about any injuries - TL is available again but who will he usurp? Maybe go with no changes from the Swansea game which definitly was the best performance of a mediocre season so far.

Team news:

Marshall (C), Wisdom, Shinnie, Bielik, Jozwiak, Waghorn, Byrne, Kazim-Richards, Clarke, Buchanan, Knight.

Subs: Roos, Forsyth, Bird, Ibe, Sibley, Evans, Holmes, Watson, Hector-Ingram.

A measured and well meant good night to you all. An amazing and inspiring collective that you are. 🐏

Comment from Sunday morning :
Well the day after and I'm still smarting from defeat. Football can be so cruel at times. We did not deserve to lose. Games hang on such threads. As someone else said it's all about opinions. Joz was clear on goal after getting in front of the full back and the Ref gives a foul. Can't see it. Yes he still would have some to do but a scoring opportunity denied. Ref sends off Waghorn. I agree a sending off - but equally could have been a booking only. Ref misses foul on Sibley and Preston score. Overall we defended well and if we carry on in such a way we will be fine. The thing with the sending off (so early) is that it gave Preston something to go for and set us on the back foot for the rest of the game. On such things do games hinge. But for the sending off we'd have won / drawn imo. Yes, we do need more threat up front but I still think we're punching well below our weight.

The biggest positive for me was that Bielik shrugged off the tweak of his knee and carried on. I don’t know if our recent upturn is down to Rooney taking charge or Bielik coming into the team. He has been imperious and I don’t know if we would play with the same control if we had, say, Bird or Evans in that position. Hopefully we won’t need to find out any time soon. Lawrence coming in for Waghorn won’t weaken us in my opinion but Rooney says that is unlikely to happen by Tuesday so presumably Holmes will play. It would be quite nice to see a bit of Ibe.

There is still quite a lot of Ibe to see.

Come on own-up, who brought Spart the "Guinness Book of One-Liners" for Christmas?

The Bumper Book of Spart's Wit and Wisdom was on sale. It wouldn't have even made a decent stocking filler for a gnat.

Not me. I bought him the 2021 edition of Old Moore's Almanack to help him to predict which of our new signings might turn into half decent players

I bought him this one:
