Sky Blues v Forest

K.O 7pm St Andrews

The dysfunctional transfer policy at Forest continues with the latest arrival at the City Ground of James Garner. The write up on the Forest website beautifully spells out how far Vrentzos is out of his depth.
If anybody ever gets a interview with him [perhaps trip him up as he dashes into a kabab shop] and asks about our transfer policy, I fully expect an answer along the lines of, ' I dunno it's all Greek to me &, beware Greeks bearing gifts'.

A definite gamble here on a Maverick Man United U23, who has had a half season playing central midfield for Watford. He shares a common trait with Krovinovic in that he doesn't score goals.

Brennan Johnson at Lincoln has scored 6 goals with 2 assists from 23 games.

Coventry a team that I expected to struggle in the Championship sit in a very respectable 17th place. Tyler Walker is returning from injury after being substituted at half time in their 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday and is unlikely to make the bench. He is still suffering from a soar calf.

Men to watch are Hamer & Godden with 5 & 4 goals apiece [Walker comes 3rd in their chart] they have also let in 35 goals, so will probably be very relieved to be playing us!

This is the first of a series of must win games for Forest that require a attacking line up & attacking intent.

Hopefully Ameobi isn’t badly injured. Midfield is starting to look good, will be a fight between Sow, Yates and Cafu for the DM spot now I guess. Heard rumours that both Arter and Sow would leave and can see why now

Arter has been a big disappointment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hasn’t worker it for him. Maybe he’s not a Hughton player? He does seem a fighter but doesn’t fit well into any of the midfield roles

I think the Garner lad did ok. Fizzled out quickly but showed he can launch an attack.

Was Garner any good, what about Murray when he came on?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Rev. I watched the game and Garner looks to have a pass in him and will be useful in the side. Murray came on for 15 or so minutes and saw only the ball whizzing by him as Coventry bombarded our goal. Which was to be expected, they didn’t like going behind at all and threw everything at us. Nice to win games like that.

Garner looked very good. Can pass; likes a tackle.

Murray hardly had a touch.

Not pretty. But we needed 3 points.

Grabban was solid and worral and garner were great.

A point further from danger

A win at this stage was all important - very good result - let’s hope it can be followed up with another on Saturday

Garner reminded me of Kieron Dowell, just hope he doesn’t fade quite as quickly, though tbh Dowell was excellent for the first half of that season. Other pluses tonight, apart from the 3 points, Colback and Freeman getting minutes on the pitch.

Colback getting booked - some things don’t change

I thought Grabban struggled to be honest. He was never the quickest but doesn't look like he can go past his marker these days. Took his goal coolly which he will usually do. I don't think Hughton likes Taylor; he may not have had any more touches than Murray if he had come on but at least he would have given their back three a hurry up. Unfair to judge Murray at this stage I know after only fifteen minutes on the pitch but we can't wait too long for him to get up to speed.

Garner has more of a physical side to his game than Dowell. Came off after being clattered but it didn't affect him when he came back on.

Freeman could do with losing a few pounds. He left Bong too exposed in the second half.
