I'm asking mate, I don't follow the PL closely enough to be able to give an informed opinion. I'm just genuinely surprised.

Generally speaking, I think both those sides have far and away the best systems - which also maes it easier for the players to shine. But wouldn't people like Rice, Reece-James, Son be in with a shout? Have others like De Bruyne or Sane done enough throughout the season?

Laporte probably deserves to be in there too over one of the Liverpool CB’s. City have to best defensive record and have conceded far less chances than Liverpool so it’s probably a bit unfair to include essentially 5 Liverpool players from the defensive 6.

well a big reason for that might be because what they contribute not just defensively but overall? TAA for example is top assists. Liverpool are top scorers at set pieces? VVD and Matip contribute to that massively and they both insanely good on the ball starting majority of our attacks. Games moved on a bit from being solely judged on clean sheets as a defence, most liverpool city defending comes from further up the pitch anyway.

Chillwell and James be interesting to see how the season would have panned out as both were, Atleast statistically, the best performing full backs in the league when they went down.

Agree with op though, no suprise it should be Liverpool and city players considering the gap.

Maybe Gallagher sneaks in.

Oh and Thiago silva deserves a mention, kept our defence together with azpi (at wing back) and Alonso in it.

most of the chances are offside, and due to high line and fullbacks upfront. yet we conceded a massive 1 goal more than city.
