Steve Smith

87 tests, 28 tons and an average of over 60

Is he the best of the 'big' four?

I'd rather watch the other three but he is a run machine. Words that I'd never thought I'd use when I first saw him bat.

He's definitely the best in Tests but likewise he's my least favourite to watch.

Can see his average dropping to 55 by the time he retires but will still be an insane record to have.

Yes best in tests. A very good ODI player but has not reached the benchmark set by Kohli.

His average went below 60 of late. I know he scored runs today but he's not been at the rate as before. Sometimes you just have to wait until they retire to decide on the rank. If it was just tests then Smith for now.

If you combine all 3 formats despite his recent slump it would be Kohli with Root 2nd.

Test: Steve Smith
ODI: Babar Azam
T-20: Virat Kohli
Across all formats: Babar Azam

Babar is nowhere near the other 4 in Tests yet, although he does have time on his side.

Only 6 100s rules him out of the conversation for me.

Babar, Labachane, Pant are the next breed.

In tests yes but in ODI and T20 he is certainly one of the best!

Babar was not that great in test cricket in the early part of his career.. His career average was approximately 35 in first 15 tests he played but in the last 2-3 years, he has been averaging more than 60 in test cricket and its safe to say he is as good as the other 3 if not better in test match cricket as well

Strange argument given Root’s form in that period
