It is with great sadness that I have to report that Atheist has passed away. His funeral was last Thursday.
Ath to us, had stopped posting at the end of last year After a while a few had asked after him and CS tried the email address he had for him without success and had tried scouring t'internet and social media. A few years back Ath's computer had broken and he had nobody to fix it so was offline for about 3 months - we hoped it was something similar?
About 6 weeks I offered to do more digging. His email address implied his real name which was quite rare. Searching registration records there was no record of his death at that time recorded in Scotland. We thought we knew the area he lived from a comment he'd made in the past. Electoral office and registration office were next to useless help but I had a lead from a death notice that roughly tied when we knew Ath's wife had passed. Her marriage record further tied in with date and Ath's email name so it was ordered and arrived yesterday. Streetview showed a wheelchair ramp outside and Ath had revealed he was in a chair so it was all looking positive
I went to the property today, got no answer but a neighbour popped out her door and confirmed. Ath, she said, had lost his other leg too. After xmas he'd contracted covid and with other complications he'd never made it out of the Royal. Unfortunately, we were a couple of weeks too late.

Aye I ended up down there local last night, got chatting to an old timer next to me.
Turns out he's 86 and halfway through the 45 hours required to get his pilot's license. Comes through from Aberdeen once a week for lessons.
Fair play to the guy.. was really knowledgeable with everything planes and was clearly an enthusiast.
