Never really played Final Fantasy. But it is a well loved long running franchise that many have enjoyed. This is the latest state of play for the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI

State of Play Final Fantasy

Played that last few, they are missing the magic and try to hard to fit in to what they think the western market wants rather than stick to what they are good at.
the remake was better than I expected but for me FF work best in turn based combat.
FF7 is the GOAT of games

FFX is my favourite game of all time. It’s the only game I’d advocate them remaking every new console generation as I would happily play it again and again.
Like whodunnit said, though, after XII they rehashed the combat and focus of the games to cater for a younger, more westernised audience. Them steering away from turn-based combat is such a massive shame, for me.
This game’s combat is done by the guy who did did DMC5. A lot of folk laud that system, but it’s just a hack ‘n slash, for me. I love the art style and unapologetic direction, the concept, etc., but I will just never be a fan of a hack ‘n slash.
I’ll buy XVI, as I’ve bought every one since X, but I have no hopes for it at all. Even calling summons “Eikons” breaks my heart a little.
Also, who can root for a main character called Clive 😂😂

When you look at the combat system of VII Remake I think that would really work well for an VIII remake in terms of how they effect the characters and how they are used from a narrative prospective.
Also think you could really open up aspects of the storyline which were not delved into at the time, essentially it's a story about child soldiers which could be explored far more.
IX looked beautiful when they upscaled it a bit ago for the HD version, honestly it held up amazingly well.
