100 Greatest video games of all time

https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/best-video-games-all-time/amp

Make of this as you will. Hopefully it will open up some discussion.
Great to see Dark Souls and Bloodborne make the top 10, and I couldn’t agree more with the latter. Love DS but I’m one of the few that preferred 2. I look at DS3 as being slightly different (not in DS lore) because it’s combat is influenced by BB.
Elden Ring made it as well, but no Sekiro. FS fanboy rant over.

anyone else feel they wasted hours of their life on elden ring?

Boring same old dungeons and bosses, no dialogue, no real story, blurry cold world with nothing in it.

really didn't get the hype all the way through.

Wasted hours playing any game to be fair. Elden was fantastic though, as frustrating as good at times due to the insane difficulty levels (fack that fire giant and makakieth) , but it’s a masterpiece imo

FFX is a perfect game, in my eyes.

I hate that they’ve moved on from turn-based combat completely. I’m currently playing FFVII Remake Intergrade and, whilst I’m gutted it’s not purely turn-based, at least there are large elements of that style incorporated.

I thought FFXV’s combat was horrendous (hold square ffs) and it looks like FFXVI is going even further in that direction, with it being completely real time, no ATBs whatsoever.

It really detracts from the other players in your party. When a game forces you to use each of them in earnest, you grow to know them & their skill sets, taking a vested interest in their development. In FFVII Remake, though, I pretty much just use Cloud; in FXI you’re coerced to just use Noctis, and I understand FFXVI is the same
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Correct me if im wrong but didnt the ff7 remake give you options for the combat?

I did say, but maybe I was too vague. FS don't hold your hand into how to play the game or what to do, they just give hints ie a particular ring or weapon found before a fog wall.
The lore is left to you to discover and learn via NPCs and bosses etc.
The dungeons can be bore I agree, they are fillers but some are important and add to the story.
Have you played Bloodborne, Nick? The dungeons on that game will infuriate you

No I haven't. Elden Ring was my first FS game. I liked the open world element of it, that's why I bought it, but yeah, can't say I was impressed.

It's a reboot...but I think mostly for just a new or fresh storyline

I quite liked the rehash they did recently, main character was $hit but the rest I quite liked tbf !

Also yes FFX is brilliant. Pushed the PS2 to it's limits. Just brilliant

It does - “classic” and “normal”.

Normal you incorporate real time combat (blocking, rolling, attacking) as your ATB gauge fills up, which then allows you to make more traditional FF choices (spells, special abilities).

In Classic, the real time combat is done for you on auto pilot, and you wait for the ATB gauge to fill and then make the choice.

I went with Normal as the latter sounds awful; not a fan of having any game (or any thing, really) auto-pilot on my behalf!!

I see it every time on these lists - they have Portal 2 over the original Portal and I don't get it. Portal was so tight and focussed. Sure there was more in Portal 2 but that doesn't make it better. Portal was basically the perfect video game.

Don't get Disco Elysium being so high either. I've even seen other lists that put it in the top 5. Played it for the first time literally just a few hours ago and it was just dialogue trees followed by a completely random and unavoidable death for my character. Maybe it gets better but seems to have the same hype nonsense that Undertale did. Telling that not a single person here has mentioned it.

Also no Worms game on the list? Come on.

ps that "classic" style is still nothing like the actual classic battle system from before

Seems like it's a continuation from the end of the last game but both endings between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung crossing paths or dimensions

I've only played 8 of the games on the list Disappointed there was only 1 Uncharted game there, Crash Bandicoot should have been up there and Mafia as well.
