If Stokes can not bowl they will need to pick an extra bowler, which means it would make sense to pick Bairstow as keeper to free up a space. It it harsh on Foakes but he may well still get the gloves if Bairstow fails to prove his fitness against Ireland. Bairstow is clearly a better batsman than Foakes and there is not much between them with the gloves, Foakes probably edges it.

Where does it free up a space though? They would both bat 7 because the top 6 will be Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook and Stokes. 4 bowlers will get picked whether its 3 seamers and a spinner or 4 seamers.

The seamers are becoming a concern though, Archer out, Anderson small groin injury, Robinson ankle injury, Stone out, Carse out. Hopefully Roninson and Anderson will be fine but with Stokes potentially not able to bowl as well puts extra strain on the 3 seamers if Leach plays.

I think Stokes will get 10 overs a innings from in.. hes just gonna have to deal with the issue. Not a lot can be done now anyway.Besides if we are hoping to bowl the cheats out cheaply we wont need a 5th bowler..

Stokes wants fast flat wickets though so we can score 400+ in a day and then have as much time as possible to take 20 wickets so will bowl a lot of overs. The likes of Labuschagne and Smith will be happy to bat for days though to pile on the runs.

I think Stokes will bowl himself into an early retirement but his captaincy isn't going to be remembered for leading the team for 100 tests. He will want to have a major impact and I suspect would love to lead the team in Australia but that's still 2 and a half years away.

Robinson is OK.

Probably either a part time spinner option such as Jacks or they'll go with a full seam attack (which I think they would have done some tests if Leach was fit, as the Aussie would likely target him).

We are really limited here. Wouldn't be surprised to see us throw Rehan Ahmed in or go 4 seamers plus Root and Stokes, who himself might bowl left arm spin
