This misrepresented stat gets bandied about a lot in discussions about police brutality and race. Whilst true when looking at purely x amount of white people shot by police vs x amount of black people. However by proportion of population, how many white people and black people live in the US you are far more likely to experience police brutality, being shot, injured or even killed at the hands of the police if you are black.

A quick Google search backs your stat as debunked many times.

It's such a non-issue too. People can still call them Brecon Beacons if they wish but the official name of the park is Bannau Brycheiniog. It'd be nice if people respected it though like they've done with Kyiv, Mumbai, Beijing etc.

It is and it isn't, though. I've been watching these linguistic culture wars unfurl in Spain for 30 years now, and there's no sign of them abating. If anything, they just get worse.

I don't care whether it's unionist or separatist nationalisms, they both just seek to stoke the flames of division for their own political gain.

And it's short sighted too. Having a Welsh/Catalan heritage, language, culture and identity is perfectly compatible with their broader British/Spanish equivalents.

There's no reason they shouldn't mutually enrich and enhance one another. Around the world the number of bilingual and multilingual people actually outnumber those who speak one language only.
