Bolton Middlesbrough/Transfer Deadline Day

2nd Round of the EFL Cup and championship opposition as old foes middlesbrough come to the toughsheet community stadium. Bolton haven't played middlesbrough since relegation from the championship in 2019. Recent history hasn't been good as Bolton have lost the last 8 fixtures between the clubs. The last Bolton win was 2-1 at the Reebok in 2013. Some memorable fixtures. 2-1 at the Reebok on the final day of the season in 2003 to stay up on the premier league, 1-0 at the Riverside in 2008 with a Gavin McCann winner on the way to staying up and of course the Carling Cup final in Cardiff in 2004 which Bolton lost 2-1. Team news. Nothing as yet and will update. Johnston is out for the season and Santos picked an ankle injury up after being kicked out of the game at Burton, the extent of which we don't know yet. Joel Coleman is likely to replace Nathan Baxter in goal. The rest of the side likely to be rotated the extent of which we won't find out until an hour before kickoff. Kickoff is 7.45 on Tuesday night and there has to be a winner on the night. No extra time and it's straight to penalties if a draw at full time.

It's also transfer deadline day on Friday 1st September and closes at 11pm the day before Bolton play Derby at the toughsheet.

On the BN live transfer blog ref possibly our most exciting transfer item of the day: (Rob Holding being sold by Arsenal to Palace).

A few phone calls made. That potential Rob Holding move to Crystal Palace definitely the most exciting thing to appear on the radar. Haven't seen fees mentioned yet - but Bolton do still retain a small sell-on clause.

Turns up R Ken just sold the league apperances and international appearance fees to keep weirdo son in the same lifestyle as he wants.

We had 9 subs on Tuesday. Evatt named all his available players in the match day squad bar John and Sadlier.

Popped my head into the Bn blog. Genuinely think they've lost the plot.

There's literally nothing happening to report on Benny. They've got to do something.

Holding money expected to be about £100,000 max.

It's just a shame he didn't really keep up with his early promise down there.

Regarding Rob Holding's sell-on fee, Is it a fact that it is only 5%? From what I can see that could be a gues from a fan. If that is the case, let's hope that it is more than that.

Whatever it is, it will be good news. The club can then add it to the higher prices for match day tickets in our all-inclusive family football club.

It seems to me that the club seems to be trying to extract as much cash from supporters in every way they can. I really thought that the club were doing a decent thing by keeping prices low and attracting more supporters.

Let's hope that this policy doesn't come back to bite the club on the bottom.

On a none transfer related story, David Wheater has just announced his retirement. Still think it's a shame the way he ended up leaving, was a hell of a player for us.

The day ended with sadlier leaving having his contract cancelled so no now a free agent. Declan John signed on loan for Salford City until January. No incoming, leaves a first team squad of 22 which is effectively 21 with Johnston out for the season.

Mission accomplished; I've got square eyes from all those movies yesterday.
When does the January transfer window open and close? Who and what are we carrying over on the wanted and for sale lists.

After such a good transfer deadline day all that's left is to announce the sick bay is closed, it's made of dodgy concrete awaiting demolition prior to building a new one.

Small squad and a big match today, is that our usual recipe for an injury crisis and scratching around for free agents by Monday morning.

Evatt keeps coming out with the positives regarding our squad, the next few games including today's game will show us whether or not he has got it right.

My thoughts are as usual, we need that striker who can put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis. Only Charles seems to be a twenty-goal a-season man and he misses more than he should.
