Has anyone noticed an increase in the football 'vox pop' recently? I've noticed that both Sky and TNT Sports are wasting time interviewing the fan in the street or one of those irritating, self-absorbed club podcasters that will kill their own granny for airtime. They're bloody everywhere now.
Social media has created a narcissistic world where everyone feels they're owed a moment in the sun. We have dedicated profile pages for others to view, twitter handles, followers. Christ, we've even got a thing called 'Check-in' to tell people that aren't really interested where we are at that exact moment. Handy for burglars to know when you're out. From all this, an overflowing level of self-importance has cultured. So much so that the powers that be at these networks feel we're not hearing enough from the people that (don't) matter.
Am I the only one who couldn't give a shiiiit what Dave, a builder from Woodford, thinks of the application of the inverted full back and whether Porro has the skillset to master that role? Give it a rest. Can we not just hear from the ex-pros that know what they're talking about and leave the ordinary fan in the shadows of the football forums such as this one?
We've all got an opinion on the game but does it deserve THAT level of exposure? Is that what I'm paying my subscription for?
Get in the bin!!!!

Personally I don't watch all the punditry and analysis n that. I like films, I don't need to watch someone breaking down how certain scenes work or not to appreciate it. I enjoy music, I don't need to understand how an artist plays the guitar, what their writing process is.. I'll go to watch them live and see if they're actually good or not. I get why some people find it interesting, and I appreciate them, but it's generally not for me.
My issue with the vox pop stuff is that it's used to push a narrative. Sky or whatever interview a bunch of people and select the soundbites they want to use to further whatever storyline they've got going.. Dave from Surrey thinks Pogba's just been unlucky with injuries? No good. Steve from Stevenage said he's a lazy disgrace to the shirt? Perfect.
More broadly, as much as I enjoy sharing my opinions on here and discussing them (like I would in the pub) I find it frustrating when you can tell you're talking to someone who's got their opinion from those narratives, nicked off a podcast or whatever. Watch the game, tell me what you think. That's valuable right? I care about you.

Yeah but, would you rather the opinion of different people in the street, or the same person who gets paid for simply opening his mouth? Do you want to hear the opinions of Piers Morgan on Arsenal (Who is probably given money to voice his opinion) or just a regular match going fan?
I know whatd id prefer

Yeah but the choice isn't Piers Morgan is it? You picked the worst person still broadcasting probably.
When I do tune in to football news, 100% I'd rather listen to a qualified journalist. Not that their opinions are necessarily more valid (though often they're better informed because it's their job..) but because they structure them properly. Sure there's some fans that eat up hearing lazy hot takes but not for me. You can hear that in the pub.

One of the worst "pundits" ever - have you not got a remote to change the channel?

Ok I go a little too far with Piers. But come on, once you've listened to someone a few times, do you really need to tune in and listen to them talk about the same thing time and time again? Not really
Do i want to listen to Alan Smith all the time? Gary Neville? Soccer Saturday wasn't good due to the tactical analysis before or during the games, i just want to see someone act like an idiot when a goal goes in.
The only person i can listen to is Keane, and that's because he's not able to talk about all the tactical stuff and how someone should be in this position or that. He says so and so is rubbish and that's it. Or he was good because he went flying in with a tackle.
Every other pundit out there gets too into it to seem believeable. Give me normal match going fans opinions every day of the week over pundits

I know what has happened during a football match, i dont need someone to tell me what happened or that so and so was good. Just entertain me, be an idiot, say something funny

No. That's why I don't watch all the punditry and stuff.
Anyway, the same logic applies to watching fans chat. Do you really need to listen to 10 fans leaving the United game after every match? You're not learning anything. Fair enough if you want to listen to idiots talk nonsense for entertainment, of course. Personally, I think there's better ways to spend my time.

I don't think you've grasped the point of this. Piers Morgan, in this context, is just a fan so why the hell would I want to hear his opinion or analysis on the game? If anything, that example supports my argument, not yours.
If I were watching a show on journalism I'd rather listen to Piers Morgan because he has a wealth of experience in the industry than some tart with a fagggg on who's had a microphone shoved in her face in the street.
Whether you like punditry or not isn't the point. That's always a matter of opinion. It's strange how some people hate pundits but are in favour of fan comment. To my mind they're the same thing but one is informed and the other isn't. It's like watching the news presented by a fat bloke in a pub making stuff up.
On second thoughts that actually sounds like a blast.

The only reason these nobodies get any TV time is because AFTV was getting record views from Spurs, United, Chelsea fans etc
