Derby County 2 - 1 Cheltenham Town

DERBY COUNTY v CHELTENHAM TOWN League 1 #29

Saturday 27th Jan 2024, 1500, Pride Park Stadium, Derby

Woah....woah...woah - sorry but that defeat v Reading WAS disappointing but did it have to be so...well.....literally so listless? A bit of a shock to the system but we go again and after reflection, I still think we'll go up automatically.

All the blame game and mud being slung on Twatter shows that we still have very entitled tourist fans, but they are entitled to their opinions, I just don't agree with them.

And guess what? we're still 3 points from the top.

Who knows what will happen - literally - on the pitch on Saturday v Cheltenham? Hopefully Reading was a bit of wake-up call but another poor listless peformance and the grumblings will intensify.

Anyone going on Saturday - I'll be at Halfords at 2.00pm for a new windscreen wiper blade?

And then we can all go home for tea

Team news:- Vickers (GK), Wilson, Hourihane (C), Cashin, Barkhuizen, Bird, Collins, Mendez-Laing, Sibley, Blackett-Taylor, Nelson

Subs: Wildsmith (GK), Ward, Bradley, Fornah, Thompson, Fapetu, Robinson

TW?

Good result for us Oxford Vs Portsmouth draw. We've got to take advantage now.

So who is optimistic we'll sign someone decent by the close of transfer window?

It's a huge NO but it's also a ' but do we anyway' regarding Tom Ince who was placed on loan this week? We could put him in a no.10 role which may help our midfield balance ? Or am I showing signs of desperation here?

So early signs of desperation being shown by me. Got it!

Lee Gregory now linked with us. Would appear we're scouting only in Sheffield for a striker.

Are we still hamstrung by our budget agreed with the EFL?

Yes apparently we're still operating under EFL supervision. I understand this restriction stops in the summer.

Fair play to Warne, he hasn’t whinged at all about the budgetary restrictions. It seems one or two players we might have been interested in have gone to rivals just because they can offer a bit of cash. I thought Gregory was decent enough but he’s a couple of years older now. He might be a reasonable back-up to Collins but it’s hardly an exciting signing if it happens.
