Derby County 1 - 0 Stevenage

DERBY COUNTY v STEVENAGE League 1 #33

Saturday 17th Feb 2024, 1500, Pride Park Derby

Good win on Tuesday and all of a sudden we're going to walk this league - not so fast, there's still a long way to go.

And guess what? we're literally still 6 points from the top.

Not alot to say really - will Collz be playing? will Adams get another ? will we win?

Stevenage will bring that extra frisson of animosity due to their not very nice manager but it doesn't matter 'cos we once employed Billy Davies
'Nuff said

Feel free to add - just 399 to go

Team news:- Wildsmith (GK), Wilson, Bradley (C), Cashin, Barkhuizen, Bird, Mendez-Laing, Elder, Nyambe, Adams, Nelson.

Subs: Loach (GK), Hourihane, Smith, Sibley, Thompson, Fornah, Ward.

Anyone listening to RD this evening? Caller suggesting Sibley should be playing as a No.10. Christ one goal and people want him to return in that position!

He's done well as a LWB and shown his most consistent performances.

Sorry Desi, I thought it was a good call.
Horses for courses

Not sure how we fit him in currently though 🤔
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's had a few opportunities in an advanced role and has very rarely remained the whole game. I'd be interested to know how many 90 min matches he's completed in the last 1.5 seasons?

The other call was as an impact sub. If he can be our Olē Gunnar Soljskaer style option I'm all for that.

The hardest part of the game is putting the ball in the net, and most of it is about getting yourself into the right place. Lineker scored most of his goals from about an inch out but it wasn't a fluke. Reg may have lost some pace but I doubt he will have lost his striker's instinct. If we get the ball in the right areas he might just get a few crucial goals between now and May.

Pretty clear from recent performances that we need a midfield 3 consisting of Adams, Bird, Hourz/Smith/Tommo, so sub may be his best role for us this season.
Since leaving the club, Whittaker and JK have shown that you only really see the full potential of a player if he is persevered with in his best position.
I think another team may well find something similar with Sibs (and arguably Bird) next season.

Relatively strong u21 side (Ward, Fornah, Thompson etc) lost 1-3 home to Bburn

In terms of performances anyone stand out for Derby?

Republic of Ireland were linked with Chris Coleman for the managerial's role. Crikey they've really plummeted in terms of their reach. From the dizzy heights of Jack Charlton who was recruiting everyone to represent Ireland via an Irish aunt or cat to the crazy but equally impressive appointment of Trappatoni.

Now they can't even get perma tanned Coleman on board. Hope they can find the right rebuild project, always liked the Irish squads of the past and they had a strong never say die spirit in tournaments. Unless that was just the Guinness talking?

I've been informed that Bobby Maddley is referring our match on Saturday.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Madley

According to the info provided Bobby Maddley is an ex Barnsley Academy player. I've said there's no way , it's got to be a joke but apparently PGMOL/EFL have approved it.

Can anyone in here confirm if he is officiating the game or if this is just a bad joke?

"Yes. Then quit in a scandal and went abroad. He was the ref who sent Chris Martin off at Burnley for a dive (clear penalty) and disallowed the goal…. In the season we was chasing promotion with burnley. Weeks before he was pictured at a burnley training session."

@Rapsta, thanks 👍🏾
I vaguely remember this. How the faq is someone so closely involved with one of the clubs in the past allowed to officiate this game
