Signing of the Season

We’re two thirds into the season and I’ve not seen one of these yet. It’s all about opinions, so take into account impact, cost, performance, making others around them play better, whatever you want.

I’ll start with some choices, feel free to add your own, and will add up the votes at the end. Play nice and admin will multi board.

List your top five if possible so I can add up at the end.

In no particular order;

Vicario - he’s been brilliant imo. Stunning shot stopping, good distribution, great price. Not easy being a keeper in that team.

Endo - Many an eye raised, and for good reason, but the price, the attitude and no little talent gets him in my top five. Lifted a trophy already.

Pau Torres - quietly gone about his business in arguably the surprise package team of the season. Playing in an incredibly high line his reading of the game looks class.

Rice - huge fee but has shown why. I don’t think Arsenal would be where they are in the league without him.

Barkley - a free transfer who has been outstanding imo. Seems to have redound his love of the game. Has 33 England caps but maybe too late to add to those.

Add your own

They’re not laughing stocks but there’s a middle ground in it.

Anyway, I’ve readjusted my top five.

If Barkley keeps Luton up I’m calling him signing of the season. Big if, but he’s been excellent regardless.

Vicario gets in for me on about every metric going, price, performance, points.

Rice. I think he’s been excellent, I think Arsenal look a better team with him in it and I think he makes players around him better. I am allowed to pick him.

I forgot Elanga last time, and he’s had a few injuries but he’s been great for Forest. Remains to be seen if he can keep it up under the anti football.

Joao Pedro - had no idea he’d scored 19 goals. He gets in on that alone.

Honourable mentions for JWP, Endo, VDV, Maddison, Kudus, Kaminski, Diaby

A £100m signing of an established international is expect to have an immediate and quality impact. Rice more or less lived up to his price.
----------
Chelsea paid £100m for Enzo. He won the WC. He is a flop. There is more pressure and expections from a £100m players. Many have flopped like Lukaku, Hazard, Coutinho at Barca, bound to be more.

Like or not Rice has improved as a player from last season. He is a pivitol part of Woolwich's team. He could have easily put his feet up like Hazard at RM and put on a stone in weight.

He didn't and went the other way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

pivotal in steering Arsenal to less point than they had this time last season

Debateable whether he's improved them. That's not to say he hasn't contributed significantly, but the measure is not against how crap Enzo has been for the same price, its what difference he has made to his club. So far he's just been a fitter, slightly better Partey.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Luka is making the mistake of thinking that if Enzo is the 'bar' for 100m players, then Rice is storming it. The problem is that Enzo isn't the bar. He's just another in a long line of overpriced Chelsea players. Harry Kane was near 100m. Gareth Bale and Bellingham too. These are the calibre of players I'd expect for that kind of money. I'm not saying Rice isn't a top player, he is. In fact he's the nearest thing I've seen to Roy Keane since he retired, but to say he's improved them isn't accurate. What's improved them is the return to form of Odergaard and a fit defence. That's the real difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No just countering Devon's lemon statement about Rice nothing to do with the bar.

Also I said he has improved as a player..see his G&A this season. Not the team, I said he is pivitol to them.

Am I missing something here with Kudus

Scored less goals than Hojlund who went almost half a season without a league goal

Whilst I get the sentiment.

Your last comment just is a bit of an oxymoron with your inclusion of Barkley. That sort of criteria means it your list should only have Liverpool, City and Arsenal signings

He hasn’t actually. The clown has been getting away without being sent off just as much as any other season.

Don't try and apply logic to my cheap WUM

Bit unfair to disqualify him for not being signed this season when he only started playing for them this season. Makes more sense to disqualify him for defending like a clown.

I dont get why spurs fans hype udigie and Romero as much as they do. They do have good qualities, but so many bad ones too

Anyway:

Vicario
Barkley
Rice
McAllister
João Pedro
