If that's true then he definitely doesn't struggle for self-belief. In his position he's up against the ability of TAA, experience and reliability of Walker, experience and (until recently) form of Trippier and, when fit, the raw potential of James.

This is probably worse than Declan rice turning traitor on Ireland. Would be interesting to hear Ben’s side of the story. Maybe Southgate wouldn’t let him take his tanning bed?

Can't blame him when you having the manager picking a bang out of form Maguire and playing him ahead of a player who was playing well for a team top of the league in a title race. Don't blame him at all.

Tbf, Stones and Maguire together are England's best 2 CBs.

It doesn’t sound like he’s conducted himself very well over the whole thing. It makes him look like a bit of a coward for not even having the decency to tell Southgate himself. If he doesn’t want to play that’s up to him really. It’s not a huge loss, but would have been nice to have a player like him come into the squad.

Happy enough for him to not wanna go, he's been pretty crucial for us even playing through injury earlier in the season. If he got injured while away it'd suuuuuck
