Luton v Forest - Match Thread

I’m approaching things in a different way and I’m just going to assume that 1-2 VAR decisions are going to go against us!

No PSR decision until Monday means it’s definitely a points deduction, but no point worrying ahead of time. Let’s take the game in isolation and get the three points!!

Brighton:

The Good: The second half was briefly better than the first.

The Bad: The tactics were well off for this one.

The Ugly: The foul on Williams and no red card. I’d rather we have Lineker on VAR duty.

Special Mention(s): The ref, for ruining our chance of getting anything out of a very poor performance!

The Last Time we played Luton (H). A 2-2 draw (From 2-0 up, to a 2-2 draw in the last ten. Wood could’ve scored a few more before we blew the lead)

Turner

Aurier Boly Murillo Toffolo

Dominguez Mangala Sangare

MGW Wood Elanga

Well, even Nuno has seen that MGW doesn’t work as a winger…

Proposed Line-up:

Sels

Williams Boly Murillo Toffolo

Danilo Sangare

MGW

Elanga Wood CHO

Subs: Turner, Omobamidele, Niakhate, Dominguez, Yates, Gardner, Ribeiro, Awoniyi, Origi

Injuries: Aina, Montiel, Tavares and Reyna

Laughing @ Derby: They are doing alright aren’t they!

Form:

Luton (H) - W2 D0 L4 GF11 GA11 - 18th (15th in the Home Form table)
Forest (A) - W1 D2 L3 GF9 GA11 - 17th (13th in the Away Form table)

Luton have 1 win in 10 and have shipped 25 goals (scoring 20 in the process).

Prediction:

They played mid-week and have a ton of injuries, with Adebayo still out injured.

I’ve put Boly in defence and Sangare in midfield for some height on set pieces.

Play our strongest XI and go at them from the start. Once their exhausted, bring on Dominguez, Origi and Awoniyi to finish them off.

….a 3-2 Forest win.

Final Words: it’s a must win…so let’s go out and win!!

COYR!!!

They made two great clearances of the line, we try and defend from behind the line, incredible.

19 goals conceded from set play, that surely has to be a record.

It surely has to be unacceptable and what will likely send us down

Another totally unimpressive performance. Lacked any kind of urgency, and then we went for defensive substitutions. Nuno is NOT an improvement on Cooper, and no way Marinakis will keep him for next season, regardless of which division we are in.
We are almost guaranteed to be in the drop zone, or out of it on goal difference on Monday, once Laurel and Hardy make their decision of FFP, likely to be anything between 3 and 6 points.
I’ve said it before, we sleep walking into the championship, Luton have one thing we don’t have, fight.
All the money we have spent and achieved absolutely nothing.

We will be 3 points behind if it is 6 and out if 3 .

Does it matter.

Luton have fight and spirit.

Nuno expresses frustration at Luton draw.
What does he expect when he makes such uninspiring substitutions, Wood goes off, fare enough he’s got a knock, but bring on another forward, nah, we’ll bring on another defender. We had attacking options on the bench especially with wide players, but even despite the fact it’s obvious we can’t defend, or keep clean sheets, he decides to sit back and invite pressure.
Absolutely clueless decisions by the manager.
Week after week we shoot ourselves in the foot, with the same basic errors, can’t defend set plays, and fail to take guilt edged chances. Receipts for relegation, and tbh, it’s probably no more than we deserve.

I strongly disagree we are heading to the Championship (unless PSR is more than 6 points). But do agree that Nuno will likely not be here next season. We should not be in the bottom six. We had a great 'new manager bounce' but since the Manutd win we have been massive under-achievers.
When Wood had to go off Origi should have played through the middle CHO wide right. But Nuno was guilty of over thinking it - not for the first time.

Red, i don’t think we are heading for the championship, i think we are sleep walking our way there. There doesn’t seem to be any urgency from the players or the manager, Luton went all out for a point, and it worked, we sat back, hoped, and it failed.
That imo is why we will probably go down, but as you say PSR may have a big say.
Next season in the Prem will be what appears to be a ‘free hit’, with yet another set of useless rules brought in. If they don’t change PSR as it stands, as many as 16 teams could fail it, wouldn’t you love to see that happen.
Proper kismet.

I think 32 points will be enough to survive. This would mean seven more points plus whatever PSR deducts from our last nine games. Everton are in the same boat, and I think Luton will struggle to get eleven.
I think the key is to sort out the two DMs. Dan and Dom are both 8s but are playing a bit deeper, Sangare is probably a 6, but player higher.
I'm writing off big T for the rest of the season. He just can't get anywhere near match fit. Chris Wood first choice striker, if he is off the pitch then play Origi through the middle for nuisance value.
Yesterday we were unlucky in their box; and poor in our own. Who told the defence to set up as they did for the corner which led to their goal. Whoever it was, he was worse than a Sunday league coach. There was so much wrong. And why did nobody on the pitch sort it out before the kick came in. Felipe was poor when the ball came in, and they had two unmarked in our six yard box for the second ball. Absolute shambles
