CL places for next season

so now looking highly likely the top 5 sides qualify.

Liverpool, city, Arsenal looking good.

Spurs and Villa in a good position but seem to be dropping points of late.

All have European footy bar spurs, although playing twice a week shouldn’t impact to much.

United a long shot 6 points back but due to goal difference 7 points back.

A good run could potentially get them back in the mix but their consistent inconsistency tells me no chance.

Top 5 done then

This lot might as well be asking for the back pass rule to return.

there has not been a 1single club per country european cup since 1997.

how old are you!

Any one else think five is too may? Takes the edge of the title race a bit for my money…

2 is too many.

would'nt the comp be over in a weekend or something though or it will be filled with champions of Malta, San Marino etc?

I think the more clubs in Europe the better, it gives other clubs more chance of winning.

Look at the Conference league, yes it’s sheite but Roma picked up their first ever Euro trophy, West Ham won their first trophy for 40 plus years and we might see Villa pick up their first trophy since 1996.

I think they should increase participation in the conference league, give the big leagues 2 or 3 spots, have the likes of Palace who have never won anything competing.

As for the CL - I predict England will have 6 spots in 5 years or less, we are where the money is at and UEFA want it.

I expect Spurs to be in it next year - should be a minimum of 10 games for us, which is a very decent return and something to look forward to

Look this is all getting towards the entire top half of the prem being in some euopean compeittion.

If they can make money doing it great.

but the gulf in tv money between the CL and even the europa is so massive that eventually it will lead to the europea super legaue where the top clubs simply queue up at the top table.

I do think that we need to find ways to help the poorer leagues in Europe improve. Whilst i understand the top leagues get more places, i think we are starting to get greedy.

Its not all about english, spanish and german clubs. People in Poland, Czech, Romania, Bulgaria, Switzerland, etc... they want to see their clubs face these teams. It feels like they are being squeezed out.

I think helping these teams get into these tournaments is just as important if not more so than just ensuring we have Real vs City like fixtures every season

Surely if Arsenal and West Ham lose to their German opponents then it looks unlikely?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That is how I see it. Those two games will be pivotal. England win both then it is a done deal, Germany win both then it goes to the wire

Villa the tricky one, if in the last few weeks of the season they have the cup final and league on the line they could easily slip up in the cup final, assuming they reach it of course.

I agree, that is why the conference league is a very good thing.

will it be when mid table english, spanish and italian sides play out the finals for the next 10 years?

We are at that point due to money. No other leagues can compete at all so the days of a side like ajax even having a good team due to having cl money are now fast diminishing.

Yeah, it is tricky, the lesser nations get to the last 16 easily enough, but beyond that it gets tougher. Certainly don't want to be filling it with more better league sides.

I also don't think it is a given that Villa win it. Neutral game against a decent side is a potential banana skin for sure, they lost to a Polish side already this tourny and drew with a Bosnian one.

Add in the potential high stakes of the last few weeks of the season and it may be a distraction.
