Gabriel Jesus

Jesus has scored as many in the Champions League this season as he has in the Premier League, despite playing almost a quarter less games in the CL.
Tonight, if he plays, he needs to show up and be a difference maker. Acknowledging his injury woes, 4 goals in 21 games in the league is pretty pathetic so it is his CL return that keeps him in credit.

He has come out and said he can't remember the last time he played without pain - a worrying theme with the likes of Saka and White also playing through injuries.

Obviously a massive game tonight. Need to take a lead to Munich, but also can't let tonight derail the whole season.

His all round game is very good but he just doesn't put the ball in the net enough. Havertz at 9 just feels like a better option at the moment because he wins duels, he drops deep but he's more likely to get into good goal scoring positions and then ultimately score.

He's a good option across the front 3 though which makes him valuable for this run in.

Tuchel will set up Bayern to defend, like against Lazio. Luckily Bayern's defence has mistakes in it, but Arteta needs be more tactically switched on than he was against Porto, especially being at home first leg.

Arteta employs a hybrid Moyes/Pep system when defending. You may ask what has this got to do with attacking and Jesus? It's all about transitions. When you win the ball back in a Moyes/West Ham system, you are further away from goal, and you can counter in two-ways. Either a long ball to a hold up striker or on the ground with pace. That's why Lukaku/Antonio are typical type of Moyes attackers.

Havertz fits that much better than Jesus.

When we press to win the ball back quickly and dominate possession (ie the Pep way), the strikers need to be far more technical and use tight spaces. Jesus works in that formation really well. But so does Havertz who was a midfielder in Germany and played that for Arsenal in the first half of the season.

I just don't see Jesus getting his central striker position unless Havertz gets injured. And Martinelli is a better balance to Saka in the wide positions. So I question does he even start when Martinelli is 100% which has to be soon to get back to our balance when we were steam rolling teams!

Bayern will have their best eleven available tonight. I do think that they will be cautious the first few minutes.

I have no clue what Arteta has in his mind. He clearly had a call with his friend Alonso at Leverkusen.

Back to Jesus. His serious of injury is indeed a concern. Same as Benny Blanco and Bukayo Saka. We can't effort to lose these players. That would really derail and define our season. I hope there will be a solution of their injuries in the summer to sort it out.
