UEFA Coefficient watch

After the UCL results this week, where both English teams drew and the German teams drew and lost, the coefficient now puts England in 2nd place, on an equal coefficient (16.50) with Germany but still a fair chunk behind Italy (17.714). (Not sure why England are head when points are tied)

Dortmund may struggle to progress to the SFs, but got a crucial goal at A.Madrid, so still possible.

Tonight,

West Ham vs Leverkusen will play a big role. WHU away tonight. Leverkusen unbeaten all season in all comps.

Liverpool should have too much for Atlanta, which is 1 of 4 Italian teams still in Europe.

One of AC and Rome will go out as they go head to head in the Europa.

Aston Villa face Lille, probably the toughest 2 teams let in the ECL, so if they win that stand a very good chance of making the final.

Fiorentina play Plzen in the same competition.

Looking good so far with England having the most teams left (5) and an expectation that at least 3 will go through. Germany only have 3 and might well lose another (Dortmund).

Topping the coefficient is definitely not out of the question.

I'm surprised that this week's results are being framed as such a disaster for the English clubs coefficient.

The reason for this is that by my calculations Germany got a win, a draw and a defeat = 3 points whereas we got a win, 2x defeats and 2x drawers = 4 points. I know their score is divided by 7 and ours by 8 but surely we've had the higher points total from the week?

Of course it could have been better but it could have been alot worse.

Because the bigger picture is that we'll be looking at a huge reduction in potential points in the next round with so many of our clubs likely to be heading out.

Barring a miracle I think it's safe to say Liverpool and West Ham are out. Then there's Villa with a very slender lead to take to France. Arsenal have it really tricky in Germany. Only City look like they might have enough to go through but that's not guaranteed.

It's not about this round. It's about points going forward.

The LFC game next week just needs an early goal in the first 15 minutes to LFC and the tie is back on
