Style of play

When did we last have an identifiable and effective style of play?

Watching Palace right now outplay Liverpool in a way we just couldn’t do last week. Ten Hag is more toast than Totes toasties and fingers crossed we get a manager who can realistically mould our players into something that looks cohesive.

Probably the last time we looked effective and in control was that 5 game run under Van Gaal in 14/15 at the end of the season. Weirdly we were never that good again under anyone.

I know it can easy for us fans to come up with ideas that can sometimes be a bit crazy.
But it doesn't seem to be rocket science that we are wide open with the 3 we play upfront and those 3 behind them.

I would play 2 up front so rotate between Rashford, Garnacho and Hojlund. You have Bruno behind those 2, and then we have an extra body in midfield, so Mainoo and any of the other 2 we have.

We just need more bodies in there, as teams just play through us so easily

More importantly than numbers in there, is closing the gap between midfield and defence. You either need the defenders to stick to the plan and risk getting caught in behind, or your midfield drops 15 yards.

Cant go 4-3-2 and drop Bruno and a forward. We score too few already.

Sorry, 4-3-1-2

Too narrow, plus we don't have 2 CFs

Let's be honest, we don't score many, we let in too many, so barring playing 12 men, we're fooked .
But I would just play either Rasfhord / Garnacho with Hojlund up front. Our FBs would need to provide a bit of width, and dare I say, the team would have to run about a bit......
But it could allow both Bruno and Mainoo to create a bit more with the extra midfielder

I just don't see Dalot and AWB providing wnough crisses for Hojlund, or Rashford or Garnacho being effective in a CF pairing.

Just a thought this.

If we beat Coventry next week with Ten Hag as manager if you were Ineos, and had made a decision to sack him in the Summer anyway, would you sack him then and get an interim who would have a better chance of setting Utd up to beat City?

We aren’t Tottenham.

We've become pretty small time for the comparison to be valid!

To be fair the current set up isn't giving him much service either so may as well get more solid in the middle.

Honestly, I wouldn't be suggesting this if it weren't for how we were playing at the moment.
But we don't provide enough crosses anyway for Hojlund. They're not super effective as a front 3, so may as well shore up the midfield

We’d end up even more vulnerable in the middle and wide areas, and even worse going forward, if we switched to a diamond.

3 man midfield of Mainoo Mount and Bruno

Drop Rashford for Amad, who works a lot harder.
