Dortmund winning tonight has absolutely sunk us in terms of the extra CL spot. Bayern will win tomorrow and Leverkusen will finish West Ham off. Our only chance is City and Villa progressing which is likely to be fair and Liverpool doing another Istanbul and somehow getting through - very unlikely as they look like they might be done for the season now.
We are not catching Villa in the league, so it’s Europa for us. I am not too upset to be honest. It’s a decent competition, with the expanded group stage it’s easier to qualify so we should have Euro footy into the new year, which will be good. Ange might use it to try new things in some of the games and you get decent sides in it with a bit of glamour, I mean Liverpool, Leverkusen, Milan, Roma and Benfica all in the quarters.

Definitely questions being asked of Arsenal's mentalty.
Last season it was the loss of a couple key players led to a drop off...fair enough.
This season, with the much hyped Rice, and they get turned over at home in a key game, and allowed Bayern to score twice at Emirates, a team that has already come 2nd in a one horse race.
Massive test for them tonight, and one which I cannot see them winning. They've been choking it in recent weeks.

I think strike is making another ‘England will beat France’ prediction here. On paper he’s in the right ballpark, Bayern are better, but I think he forgets how good arsenal are at cheating, expect a dodgy penalty to decide this for arsenal.

Tbf, City gave everyone a chance with their form between October and December.
But I agree, their form since the new year has been ridiculous, pretty much coinciding with De Bruyne’s return to fitness.

I've done some basic figures and if City win, Liverpool win but don't qualify, West ham draw / don't qualify and villa draw and qualify then even if Bayern win we are still leading marginally. Then it will be down to who does better between City & Villa vs Bayern, Dortmund & BL. It could go down to needing them to win their finals.

My sums have a different outcome:
2 wins (2 x 2pts) and 2 draws (2 x 1pt) and 2 teams progressing (2 x 1pt) make 8 in total. Divided by 8 give England another 1 coefficient point - total 17.5
A win and progression for Bayern (3 points) and a draw and progress for Leverkusen (2 points) gives them 5, divided by 7 = 0.714 coefficient points = Total 17.982.
Comfortably ahead of us.
If this happens, the key will be City beating Munich in both SF legs, Villa winning their comp, preferably with wins in both SF legs
It would help if Villa won tonight but also if Arsenal lost on pens, as its still seen a a draw (1 point) but no advancement point.

Think you're right Devonshire. My maths is rubbish. An arsenal draw but no progression makes a big difference. So we can hope they get knocked out but not thrashed as that would be best for us.

Being a Spurs fan I can’t help notice Arsenal as well - I know both sides flaws very well and that defeat, believe me was inevitable. Arsenal do not go away in high pressure Euro knockout games and get results, they never have and that inexperienced side was not going to start tonight off the back of Sunday.
