It's not mentality, it's fatigue...

Arteta has failed to rotate over the months - especially when 3 goals up in games - Nelson should then have been brought on for one of the wingers & Kiwior for Gabriel or Saliba.
ESR was MOTM against Luton & contrary to some people's belief has been fit for the majority of the season but Arteta has refused to start him & for most of the season wouldn't even bring him on !

He didn't even rotate properly for the dead rubber game at the end of the Champions League Qualifying !

Arteta's got this crackpot idea that you can play every 3 games without it having any effect on you if you have the right mentality - it's b0llocks because even if you are just a few per cent off it changes everything at this level where we are talking about very fine margins.

This means when you get to the business end of the season & you are playing every 3 days the first choice 11 just cannot handle it.

We ran out of gas against Villa in the second half & now again tonight. it was 100% predictable...

The same thing happened last season - which was exacerbated by the loss of Saliba & Partey not being properly fit when he came back from injury.

It's true that Guardiola has more options but nevertheless over the years he has been much better in this basic rotation department than Arteta & we are paying for it...

It’s European too. Liverpool have it. Chelsea, United. City have it too. Even Spurs have some

Arsenal don’t

Arteta should’ve learnt from last year about squad rotation. He hasn’t. ESR is the perfect example of someone you can bring in. Guys like Nelson, Eddie and Vieira need to move on as they’ve never been good enough. Partey too, Rice was supposed to be rested but Partey has been awful on the fitness front. Then you come on to our defence-Ben White seems to play every game as do the two CB. But defensively the back ups haven’t been fit all the time in all fairness.

The youth players need to be blooded in.

I actually thought he was doing a good job before the international break, but since the break he's not done so well. Maybe because we couldn't blow teams aware early on, but I think that coming into this game we had a few players who needed more rest and some places that needed more minutes to get sharp.

I think tonight he probably started the right team, but having Partey, Martinelli, Saka, Jesus, ESR all sharper could have helped a lot.

Minutes for Arsenal this season
Saliba - 3962 (pretty sure that is the most of all PL players)
Gabriel - 3822
Rice - 3734
White - 3565
Odegaard - 3514
Saka - 3435
Havertz - 3304

To put that into some context, Liverpool only have VvD with over 3100 minutes (3442). After last nights extra time City only have 4 players who have more minutes than Havertz.

Then we have
Martinelli - 2454 and Trossard - 1830
the only position with real rotation.

At left back it is
Zinchenko - 2031, Kiwior - 1496 and Tomiyasu - 1220

Up front
Jesus - 1787, Nketiah - 1392

Nelson - 639
Vieira - 462
Smith Rowe - 453
Partey - 461
Cedric - 124
Elneny - 95

Oh, and Ethan Nwaneri - 13...

These are great statistics D’Jeezus, it highlights the mismanagement perfectly, I don’t dislike Arteta, but his inability to see the need to rotate (especially when 3-0 & dead rubbers !) is a MASSIVE blind spot.
