Cambridge United 0 - 1 Derby County

CAMBRIDGE UNITED v DERBY COUNTY League 1 #45

Saturday 20th April 2024, 1500 Cledara Abbey Stadium, Cambridge

The palpitations and uneasiness are still there but there may be a glimmer. Its still easy to muck up. The clock is ticking down.

Still, a chance to reinforce our gowing belief for a climatic event at Pride Park on the last day of the season v Carlisle - (sold out).

Cambridge will be scrapping for the lives, hoping to avoid being sucked back into the relegation dogfight. You could also argue that Port Vale are doing likewise as they face Bolton. Lots of intrigue to play out.

I alas, will be incommunicado, tramping around the streets of the Big Smoke. Desperately trying to find a way of listening to the match...

How will it work out on Saturday? I genuinely don't know. All I know is that come 5.00pm, nothing or eveything will be resolved.

Team: Wildsmith (GK), Wilson, Bradley, Cashin, Collins, Mendez-Laing (C), Smith, Thompson, Sibley, Adams, Nelson

Subs: Vickers (GK), Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Bird, Waghorn, Washington, Blackett-Taylor

Think those awards are right. I voted for Cash as POTY but Nelson has been like Peter Daniel in 74/5 in his understated consistency. On Saturday he also introduced a new dark art to attacking corners. Rather than backing in to the keeper he was crouching down on his haunches next to him before the kick was taken, then springing up to his feet, I guess to prevent the confused defender from grappling with him. What a tremendous signing he has been.

Ferguson has accepted 4th and is looking to be 'sensible' on Saturday with view on the play offs. Talking about playing some players a half each.

So I now expect a Bolton win there. Hopefully very narrow.

Peterborough run the risk of being charged with playing an understrength team... Bolton will certainly win if so.

Not sure how they can be if they have a squad and use it.

Thought the same when we played an under strength Northampton but we know what happened there.

I'd say that Derby could be charged with fielding an under-strength team all season given the injuries we've had!

Might be of interest to some, Wellies perhaps?
