Top 4

Looks like a huge uphill task for us now after Villa have gone 6 points ahead. Two games in hand but against Arsenal and Chelsea. Unless we have a very good end to the season in what looks to be our toughest set of fixtures, then it seems unlikely.

It's turning or has turned into a rather mediocre season IMO when you look back at where we were in November.

What timeframe do we use for your spending arguments Barry? And does it only count towards only transfer fees?

I just went on trnsfermarket and Spurs were well high. Essentially all PL teams and PSG

Well yeah if you hold it against the standard of being top of the league then it's disappointing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you start off so strongly though, to ultimately end up without top 4 is disappointing when you haven't done anything in the cups.

Some fans may be pleased but if we see ourselves as a big club then it's absolutely nothing to write home about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I see our falling away towards the tail end of a season as symptomatic of our status as a team under development, and clear evidence that (unsurprisingly) we do not yet have the squad and the quality to cope with the ebbs and flows of form and fitness over a long season.

On balance it is disappointing to fade away a bit as we have but overall its been a very encouraging season and if we make the Europa League then the only thing about that which disappoints me is the money we miss out on from UCL.

Look at Villa this season, going far in their cup. It would be wonderful for us to be back in Europe and enjoy a decent run next season which, lets face it, is far more likely in the EL than the UCL.

I won't mind missing out on CL and getting into the Europa, it's a good starting point for Ange in his European adventures at Spurs. Despite that, and whatever fans felt like at the start of the season, I feel like our target should have at least become top 4 as the season went on, so if we don't get it, we've failed in hitting our target, which is disappointing from a performance point of view.

Anyway, as others have said, next season will show us what Ange is really made of. Let's see how we do in Europe then, and if our defence can improve. I hope we finish the season strongly but if we don't then I look forward to a fresh start, which is probably what we could do with right now the way recent performances have been going.

Indeed. Its all about progress and next season we really want to see some of the issues we have had this season being addressed - top one IMO being defensive solidity. I think much of the rest is centred on what players we bring in.

One season in should be a good amount of time for Ange's style to have really taken toll on the team and if we can make a couple of good additions in midfield and on the wing then any subsequent failings next season, we'll have to start looking more closely at Ange for because there won't be many excuses left.
