End of 2023...

Defeats to West Ham and Fulham over Christmas remain the biggest downer of the season. We went into 2024 on a massive low.

At the time the table looked like this (20 games played):
1 - Liverpool - 45pts (F-43, A-18)
2 - Aston Villa - 42 (43-27)
3 - City - 40 (45-21) *only 19 played
4 - Arsenal - 40 (37-20)
5 - Spurs - 39 (42-29)

Since that day we have played 14. won 12, drawn 1 and lost 1. We have scored 42 and conceded just 6 goals (averaging 3 goals a game and less than 0.5 conceded....)
We have had an 8 point swing over Liverpool, 13 on Villa. Scored 11 more than City, 10 more than Liverpool. Conceded 5 less than City with a game more played in that period, and 10 less than Liverpool.

2024 has been unbelievable in the league. But, as we saw last night, derby games don't really care about form. Spurs lost 4-0 last time out, while Arsenal smashed 5 past Chelsea. Spurs have had a 2 week gap to rest and prepare while we have played 3 times. They are chasing top 4, so are desperate for the points. Putting a huge dent in our title hopes would be the cherry on their cake.

It is mad to think we could win 16 from 18 and not win the league, sadly the Man City juggernaut looks likely to win their remaining 6 and take the title.

Spurs have a very good record against City under Pep - which is causing me some concern at the moment

I am convinced that City will get at least 1 draw. They have 4 away matches to come. Up to us now to win all 4 to be champions.

Definitely would have thought so if they'd still been in the CL but now I feel like they will probably win every game. Tonight is my biggest hope for them dropping points because Brighton like games like this, but they haven't been as good this season.

Brighton have been in awful form since they beat Sheffield United 5-0 two months ago. They've scored 5 goals in 10 games and won 2 including a dead rubber second leg against Roma when they were 4-0 down in the first. I'd put more faith in Forest, and they are going to get some more dodgy calls go against them.

Yeah but if them getting a result against city means we win the league, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if spurs roll over for them. They’d rather see us lose the title than them beat city, especially if top 4 is looking unlikely for them. We ideally need spurs fighting for 4th for as long as possible so that city game means something

Spurs won't be able to lie down to anyone if they want to play Champions League.

Now if they lose this weekend and Villa win they should concede and do the honourable thing and let City pump them to get the GD up.

Havertz scored a perfectly valid goal against Villa, the correct decision wasn’t given there, same with that Newcastle disgraceful fiasco.

Spurs still got to play arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool before city all could be difficult games for them, so there’s a chance top 4 is pretty much done for them by time they play city if villa win theirs. There’s no way they take city seriously if there’s not 4th to play for, even if it is to play for I wouldn’t trust them to put up a fight against city if it meant almost handing us the title

All this Bollox about teams turning over/lying down

These are professional athletes at the top of their game ffs. Sure they may have off days, we all do but no-one ain’t turning over to let another team win
