Ashworth

Ashworth taking Newcastle to Arbitration in order to secure his move to United.

Loving the new tough approach from United.

Just playing Devils advocate here but how are Newcastle out of order?

Demanding way over the odds, despite doing to Brighton, exactly what they are unhappy with United for.

Company expects employee to honour contract or be satisfactorily remunerated shocker.

It’s not even remotely out of order. If someone offered a fair price for a player, but the club wanted more, no-one would bat an eyelid.

I don’t know the in and outs of this but apparently Newcastle are very confident of their position, and I’m not surprised if so.

We both know this happens in footy and that Newcastle are asking WAY over the odds, for someone that will never work for them again.

Looking that way, and rightly so if he’s the top of his field.

I get Utd don’t want to over pay, but I don’t get people saying Newcastle are out of order. Like, at all.

Also, this Ashworth seems a bit of a blurt to me.

If you sign a contract, honour it. You certainly should be taking employers to court imo, zero class.

Is that similar to all players honouring their contracts? I don't have issue with Newcastle wanting a fair price, but I guess the emphasis is on fair. And Ashcroft seems to have burnt his bridges with them, so just a matter of time I guess.

Very similar, and that’s my point. If someone offered you, let’s say, £65m for Bruno, and Utd wanted £90m, would Utd be well out of order? Of course not and I’m pretty sure people would feel Bruno was a wrong un if he then took Utd to court to force it.

I get you, but comparing to the Ashworth case on price alone, it's more like someone offering 65 mill for Bruno and us wanting 150.
I guess don't start the negotiations from a ridiculous starting point.
the other difference is Bruno would no doubt continue playing for us, whereas Newcastle have put Ashworth on gardening leave.
So are Newcastle just going to leave him there for the rest of his contract, or reach a settlement. Kind of sad it's reached this point, but it is what it is

They’ll settle I’d have thought, but so don’t know the ins and outs of his contract by any means.

What I would say though is that this is probably Utds most important appointment. Bringing in good players at a good price, and bringing in quality young players that can be developed into world class talent, which is what Ratcliffe has said he wants, will be worth tens of millions of pounds. Potentially hundreds of millions.

I don’t think Newcastle are out of order one bit, I think Ashworth is though.
