The Weekends football

Edging closer and closer to the season end. The Championship ends its regular season this weekend, while across Europe title races are ending.

Premier League
The action starts tonight with Everton at Luton. The Toffees have secured their PL status, but for the Hatters it is a must win. We could find out if Forest get any points back today, but as it stands a Luton win takes them 2 points above the relegation zone.
With Sheffield United already down, it is 2 from 3 and Forest go to the Blades in the 3pms tomorrow. Burnleys great escape attempts see them host Newcastle.
Also tomorrow is Arsenal vs Bournemouth and Manchester City hosting Wolves as the title race continues. Both games are on TV, with Arsenal at 12:30 and City at 5:30.
Sunday sees two teams whose promising seasons have dwindled recently. Liverpool could go into the match knowing they have to win to keep in the mathematical equation for the title, but reasitically they have already accepted their fate. Spurs hopes for top 4 have taken a massive hit, and if Aston Villa beat Brighton in a 2pm kick off, they will be 10 points off the pace. Defeat against Liverpool and they could be looking at a fight for a European place!
Also on Sunday, Chelsea meet West Ham with both teams having an outside chance at Europe.
Monday night is Crystal Palace hosting Manchester United, with United chasing Europe - although they could secure that in the FA Cup.

Championship
Last day and there is still a lot to play for. With Leicester crowned champions, Ipswich host Huddersfield needing just a point to go up. Leeds need a miracle, although they do have a superior goal difference so a win over Southampton gives them half a chance.
Huddersfield are all but down, meaning Birmingham and Plymouth look like fighting to avoid the last place. Birmingham are home to Norwich and Plymouth host Hull. The games also play a big part in the play-off race, with Norwich needing a point and Hull needing a win, with West Brom the other team (they host Preston). Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday are not 100% safe.

League 1
The exciting and unfair play-offs start in the EFL this weekend. Barnsley finished 11 points behind Bolton, but it is all equal as they meet tonight in the first leg at Oakwell. Oxford host Peterborough in tomorrows match.

League 2
Bank holiday Monday sees Crawley host MK Dons and Doncaster at Crewe.

Premier League 2
The new format sees a knockout for the top 16. It starts tonight with Manchester United going to Arsenal, Chelsea host Brighton and West Ham versus Blackburn. Spurs host Aston Villa on Monday, after winning the League stage and ending 21 points ahead of the Villains.

Non league
Bromley and Solihull Moors meet at Wembley on Sunday with the carrot of League football for the first time as the reward for victory.
The North final is tomorrow, and Brackley Town meet Boston United. In the South, Worthing and Braintree play on Monday.

Also on Monday, Robbie Savages Macclesfield take on Marine in the NPL final, Telford play Leamington in SLP, Totton play Salisbury in the SLPS, Chatham play Enfield Town in the Isthmian PL.
If you are local to any of the teams it might be a good day out! Chatham for me.

Scottish Premiership
Celtic are edging closer to the title and are home to Hearts tomorrow. Rangers host Kilmarnock on Sunday. At the bottom, Livingston are still alive, just, but could go this weekend with defeat to Motherwell.

Bundesliga
The top of the league is dead, with Leverkusen champions and the top 5 into the Champions League. Darmstadt are down, FC Koln could join them if they lose to Freiburg and Mainz beat Heidenheim

Serie A
Inter are champions, so it is the fight for the 5CL places that takes interest. Atalanta and Roma seem to be the ones battling, and ahead of their meeting next week, Roma host Juventus and Atalanta go to Salernitana.

Ligue 1
PSG are champions, meaning Monaco, Brest an Lille are fighting for the 2 other CL places. Monaco play a Clermont team who could be relegated this weekend while Brest host Nantes. Both games tomorrow, with Lille versus Lyon Monday.

La Liga
Real Madrid go into the weekend 11 points clear with 5 games left, so a win at home to relegation threatened Cadiz and a Barca-Girona draw secures the title. Down the bottom, Granada could be relegated this week if results go against them.

Primeira Liga
A Sporting win over Portimonense tomorrow will put them 8 points clear, with Benfica going to Famalicao Sunday. 5 games left in Portugal.

The European Championships start in 6 weeks, with Scotland facing hosts Germany. Still so much domestic football to play before then.

Why do I have a feeling Wolves is going to be a banana skin for City?

Don't know, but hope your feelings are accurate. Knowing us (Arsenal) we will drop points home to Bournemouth anyway.

Another great thread, let down only by the puzzling ommission of the 2nd Bundesliga, in which the mighty St Pauli can confirm their promotion to the top flight with a win in the Hamburg derby this evening.

If Neto was fit I'd agree with you.

Cunha is back isn't he? He is a one man attacking army at times.

As the great businessman Ebe Scrooge once said, "Bah Hamburg."
