Joseph

Anyone else thinking MJ could be about
to take the Championship by storm?

Kid's filling out that frame. Attitude is great.
Sees last season as one where he was
able to learn and grow. Mature viewpoint.

Technically a very sound player. Can do
everything a #9 needs to do. And looks
like Farke is ready to hand him the starting
role his talent demands.

I prefer 'Battymeme' but can't be fcked to change it.

Faith, when you throw out initial personal attacks,
the way you do, don't act all offended when someone
gives it back. Quite happy to debate. Or return fire.

I'm struggling to recover from it tbh. Might have to go to A&E

From Farke:

Speaking after Leeds’ win over Hannover earlier this week, Farke was asked to give his thoughts on Joseph’s pre-season performances so far.

Farke isn’t usually one to give his players too much praise but certainly did not hold back on Joseph, admitting he is giving himself a huge opportunity to start on the opening day against Portsmouth.

He said: “If I have to judge it right now, then definitely because his pre-season is quite impressive. I’ve liked all the three games he has played.

“He was involved with goals and chipped in, not just with goals, also his maturity and also his workload. He came back out of a little break, on holiday, then he had a top, fit shape and this is the basement.

“You could really tell, from the first day, he has even used the break to bring himself into a better shape and this is always a basement, especially for young players because we have competition.

“Up front, right now, for the time Patrick is not available, perhaps, in pre-season, to get even more minutes. It’s good for his confidence if he delivers like this and he’s definitely on a really good path, yes.”

We shall see.

Like I said Bamford or Joseph dependent on fitness and form. You appear to acknowledge we struggle without Bamford in the side and the only similar replacement is Joseph. Which is what I have said. You just come across like an angry kid losing at computer games, that or that idiot Mark Goldbridge with similar fantasies.

Wober hasn’t dropped well below his level. We signed him from a side that’s a similar level to this and he went on loan to a side that’s a similar level to top of the Championship. He’s staying because no one wants him and if someone does come in he will jump ship. He may earn a regular starting spot this season. But at this stage he definitely has to earn it. At the moment Struijk is ahead of him and it’s very unlikely we will be planning on playing 3 at the back as you seem to have as a certainty given the lack of centre backs at the club.

Your bogle comments are fair, however the same could have been said about Spence. I am not going to be so naive to describe someone as ‘lock’ whatever that is outside of YouTube before seeing how he plays in a few competitive match’s for us.

God knows how you have Gnonto ahead of Rutter unless you haven’t seen either of them play?

Good comments about Wober, Faith. He is very comfortable at this level, but he could easily jump ship if an offer comes in. Let him earn his place. There is plenty of quality in that area of the team.
After today’s performance by Joseph, do you really think PB plays ahead of him if fit? It looks to me that Joseph has stepped up a level and deserves to be the first choice. It’s not just his goals, either. He poses a real threat in the box and scares the hell out of defenders with his close control and movement off the ball. It may be premature to say this, but if he stays fit and continues to improve at the rate that he is doing, I think we will see 20+ goals from him this season. That’s the big difference - Joseph can only get better, but Bamford can’t.

Some good stuff on this thread but Bamford not even good enough to have a place on the bench is a good one 😂

Trying to work what my starting 11 would be, cannot see one that doesn't have Mateo leading the line.
If we keep Summerville and Gnonto I think we storm this division and even if we lose one or both, with shrewd replacements, I think we are in to fulfill LIW's ambition for last season.
Meslier, Bogle, Rodon, Wober, Firpo, Ampadu, Rothwell, Summerville, Joseph, Rutter, Gnonto Subs Darlow, Byram, Struijk, Gruev, Crew, Aaronson, James and Piroe.

I don't see a fully fit bench that Bamford gets on.

I'll get skinned but id take Bamford over Aaronson every day of the week.
And twice on Sundays.

And after next to no pre-season and an op at the end of last season and a post Bielsa injury record that is chronic, I am sticking to my assertion that at this point I see no reason to put him in the match-day squad.

If you can see a case for him being there ahead of those guys who don't have Bamford's issues then I'd be interested to hear it.

Of my original squad I can see Crew not making it but I overlooked Gelhardt.
