Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Mali youth international Sekou Kone from Guidars FC.
That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 18-year-old midfielder will swap his homeland for Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window. United reportedly fended off interest from 'several clubs' for Kone's signature, who could now be set for an exciting future in Manchester.

Apparently he impressed at last year's under-17s FIFA World Cup as Mali beat Argentina to claim a third-place finish in Indonesia.
Kone plays in midfield, either in a central role or a deep-lying defensive position. But don't expect him in the first team, he is, much like Chido Obi Martin, going to the reserves.
I don't know much about him or who we beat off to his signing, hoping he comes good.
Sekou Kone - Here we go!

Hadn't heard of him until the news broke yesterday. Apparently he was one of the stand-out players at the U17 World Cup in 2023. There were a few clips of him playing at that tournament, where he looks pretty good: dribbling out of tight spaces, passing with both feet, likes to ping the ball to the wings, covers the ground very well and wins the ball. Obviously few players make it from promising teenager to elite footballer as an adult, so we'll see how he develops. But the club should be proactively recruiting talents like Kone and Chido Obi-Martin if we want to fulfil the stated ambition of 'not buying Mbappé, but unearthing the next Mbappés'.

He's probably Redastomatoes' favourite player already.

Ugarte has no goals or assists by end of August. Our stupid, arrogant manager refuses to do the obvious.

As an avid consumer of Malinese youth football I can honestly say he's much better or much worse than the YT clips suggest and that none of us should be surprised if he does or does not go on to have a good career in the game.

Yeah, he mentions Koné in every thread now, no doubt features in his dreams and soon to feature on his latest duvet and bed sheet!

He may be the best defensive midfielder we have already. (I'm almost serious too). But he cost us 1 million, and could be a squad member level player in 2 years if we do it right. I'll take 20 of him over one Mount.

If only clubs had a team that could give youth players a chance where they can develop until they are good enough and ready to take the step up to the first team.
