What went wrong

What went wrong wit Neil Robertson this season? Last season he was showing all the promice of a player that could be a multi World Champion.

This season just gone left him with virtually nothing. Is he a flash in the pan or will he be back to his best soon?

Personally i feel that he is one of the better players and i hope that he gets back to his best form as i find him a great player to watch in full flow.

Seems to be a trait with some of te young champions. They get to the top then take there foot of the gas. Happened to John Higgins as well. Robbo is a new dad as well I believe so things must be a bit hectic.

He's not my fav player at all, peeps say how fluent he is but anytime I watch him I think he's slow an a bit boring

Hi guys. I think a lot of players in a lot of sports, once they achieve 'the big one', struggle a bit the next season. It's probably adapting from being a player who has achieved the ultimate goal to one still chasing it - everyone wants to beat you, rather than you being the 'hunter'. It is often said that getting to the top is tough, but staying there is even tougher.
I think Robertson will recapture his form next season, and he's experiencing a blip that most players have felt in similar situations.

I think that next season could be a turning point in snooker. In the old 606 I wrote an article about this, and to sum up I think the likes of Robertson, Ding, Trump and Selby will in effect become the big 4. Higgins, Williams etc may be thereabouts, but I would actually be surprised if either of these 2 (or Ronnie) wins another world title. Some may think that a rash statement, but things can change quickly in snooker - no-one would have thought after Davis or Hendry's last WC wins that there would be no more, but they dried up oh so quickly.

Higgins, Williams or O'Sullivan may reach another WC final, but I feel that the 'new guard' are finally ready to take over.

Agreed, but add JT to that equation and you'll have the big 5.

Sorry, not JT, I meant Mark Allen :P

Out of Ronnie, Higgins and Williams, i think that only Higgins has the complete game to win the worlds again. On his day, Ronnie, is still the best player out there but he doesnt seem to have the stamina and mental ability to win another. The same could be said for Williams. Only Higgins has the drive to win another i feel.

Robbo, Ding, Allen Selby and hopefully be the big four challenging for all. I just cant see Ding in that group, a great player that he is but he is still very inconsistant.

I would say that Ding isn't any more inconsistent than the other players mentioned. In fact, I think Ding has developed his all round game and battling qualities to show that he can win games when not at his best (as shown at the WCs) He has also proven himself as a winner, something that Allen, and to a certain extent Selby has to do also. I don't think both those players have won as much as they can. Trump has shown great potential, but it will be interesting to see how he copes next season now that people really know about him, Robbertson will hopefully show his form of last year and Ding looks back to his best.

Both Ding and Trump have age on their side - I look forward to many battles between them over the next 5 - 10 years.

I meant inconsistent at the latter stages Kinsang. Dont get me wrong, i think that he is a superb player but i just cant see him being a great or a Multi World Champion.

He is one of the most exciting players to wath though.

eirebilly - I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Of course Ding still has to win his first world title, but he's got the Masters and the UK (twice). I just think it's a matter of time before he wins the WC, and I expext him to win more than one.

Then that we do Kinsang. I do see him winning one World Title but i dont see him being a multiple winner of it.
