There aren't too many Central Midfielders in the Premier League I'd rather have than Carrick at the moment. He is playing that well right now and deserves to be in team and deserves the praise.

He was woeful last season though. Abysmal. Nobody can deny that. Nice to see him find his form again.

And just to add to the "player I don't like" thing. Mine is Anderson. Never got the hype with him. He was average when he signed. He is no better today 5 years on, still over weight, still can't pass and still can't last 90 mins. One of Fergie's worst value signings.

Wow, the Carrick haters really can't stand seeing him play well.

I couldn't really fault any of our players last night?!

Carrick was only inches off with that shot that slid past the goal and did indeed make some good passes.

Berbatov made some sweet passes - even if I can't help thinking that he sometimes causes the play to 'hold up' a bit more than we might like. He always passes back - but to be fair - it adds to the pressure we put on teams sometimes. Other times, it just causes attacks to break down - not always his fault though - sometimes those around him misreading his intentions is to blame. Still, top-notch last night.

Smalling seemed to be more in the Stoke box than our own - which is not a complaint as he was also strong when required - even if a couple of times I think he was caught a little out of position (not up-field, just too wide / too narrow).

Evra and Park were their usual active selves - getting in and about the opposition, and Park winning the pen of course.

As for Pulis' comments - I heard him interviewed on 5Live last night and thought he WAS going to be gracious in defeat, until he added the Old Trafford line... Grr...

I do not understand people. Carrick is useless but manages to command a starting place in the best team in England in a very important part of the team.

If he's useless, our team is useless. Carrick was excellent yesterday. Anyone who didn't see that was not watching the game or clueless.

This is what hacks me off though. The people that hale him the best in Europe were spouting the same BS last season, and the season before.

While I agree Carrick isn't playing as bad as he usually does, a few good games is a drop in the ocean compared to the sh*te he's been plying for the bet part of 4 seasons.

As one of our apparent creative midfield players, I'd love to know what his average goal assist tally is?

So why are you slating him for being poor last season?

That season is done. He's turned a corner and is playing well or will you still hold last season over him?

The point I'm making is the tinteds on here will say he's playing well, when he isn't , just because he wears a red shirt.

That's not true though is it. People here have opinions and have said he's underperformed when he has and praised him when he's done well.

However there are people who blindly refuse to praise players they have slated and are the ones with clueless tinted glasses on
