I'm going to give Carsley the benefit of the doubt that there was no Kane and he wrongly decided to try something new. Live and learn.
The Finland game will probably be make or break for Carsley though after this result. A solid win is very much needed.
I'm still far from convinced by Potter for the England job. This is a manager who didn't do well in his last job and ended up looking like a rabbit in the headlights. He needs to rebuild somewhere first I think. Then maybe we can talk England job.
I still think Carsley is more qualified for the job with his international managerial experience and that he's already won a tourno as an England manager.

Word for word true of Southgate when he was appointed. And what was it people keep saying when the tide turned on him? All he's done as a manager is relegate Middlesbrough!
Southgate's tactics needed replacing, his man management needed another extension as it clearly worked with these players. Who's a similar type of mild mannered soft touch, has better tactical acumen, and an alright CV? It's Mr Potter
The most credible thing about Carsley's CV & what I guarantee people will focus on more than his England's youth achievements when it starts getting scrutinised (if he gets the job), is him sharing a club with Pep for two years.
He technically counts as another bold apprentice

They're not the same manager though, they're two different people. And Southgate never won anything with England unlike Carsley.
Carsley at least has shown he can get his team over the line whereas Southgate teams always bottled it in the crucial moments.
And at this stage I'm not saying Carsley is perfect for the job as I wonder how much he actually wants it and all the endless negativity that comes with being an England manager.
Kind of wonder if he changed things up yesterday as an a subconscious act of self sabotage lol. It certainly hasn't helped his chances.
At the same time it gives those with a predisposition of never wanting him in the first place the perfect ammo to say he isn't right.
I just don't see many alternatives. Howe isn't taking the job as he's at Newcastle and there would need to be a big pay off. Potter needs to rebuild before even being considered for the job imo. And my perfect choice for the Klopp looks like he's retired from football management lol.
I thought Southgate did with the youth? Oh well, I'll take your word for it.
Personally I'd be more than happy to run with Carsley. I'd have kept Southgate & just let go of Holland to introduce some different tactical ideas into the camp.
For me the next England manager needs to fulfil three criteria :
(1) Be close to Southgate in man management style & press interaction.
(2) Bring a more proactive mindset more preoccupied with England's strengths rather than the oppositions.
(3) Have a CV that will give them a bit more credit in the bank than Southgate was granted. Will mildly help the toxicity when it inevitability rears it's head.
Carsley's two out of three. Howe's like two & a half out of three (man management's more intense). Potter's three out of three.
What I'd add to Potter being my choice. If at the 2026 World Cup we stunk the place out I wouldn't miss about, he'd go straight away. That would tell me his main selling point, a unique likeness to Southgate as a people person, has warn off & England needs a different character moving forward
Carsley, Howe, Potter - they’re all a bit meh. I doubt switching out Carsley for Howe or Potter would make much difference. Hardly seems worth it.
For me, the England manager should be the biggest job in world football. I realize the 3 managers mentioned above are English, but that should not be the main consideration. We need to target the best manager in world football - and Pep’s contract comes to an end at the end of this season. No other manager comes close.
We need to target the best manager in world football

Tommy Tuchel in advanced talks to become the England manager.
Reckon he'll get this England side to win a major trophy

Heard this earlier today. I'll believe when I see it. Seems a bit too fantastical for me.
I'd love it if it happens of course. Probably kills any chance he ever becomes Germany manager though.

Just checked it out of curiosity but not only did Southgate not win a Euros but his England team actually got eliminated in the group stages in the one European Championship he managed as England U21 manager.
A year later he got the England job lol.

Don’t underestimate the stupidity of the FA. Lampard will probably get the job.
I’d love to see Tuchel in charge of England. Ensures he doesn’t manage Utd
Carsley for me definitely
Media makes me laugh, been moaning about how boring Southgate was and dubbing him Safegate. Carsley then tried something new and more attacking, we got countered easily and it didn’t work out but we did play some nice stuff and could of had a few, and at least he made use of these pointless friendlies to try something new and attacking
Media just $lag him off now can’t make it up, morons
Funny thing is the same people that mug him off for trying something new want the likes of Potter or Tuchel who would have done the exact same as what he did anyway given how they all play attacking football
Weird how a lot of Utd fans don't want Tuchel and don't see him as a top manager. Some even prefer the much less impressive Nagelsmann.
Tuchel gets underrated these days. Think it's because of that final season with Bayern, where despite the poor league form they were 90 seconds away from beating Real and getting to the final of the CL.
We praise him at for our CL win but I actually think getting us 3rd, losing two finals on pens and narrowly missing out on a historic Real Madrid win in his second season while we were under sanctions is increasingly impressive. We are still way off that level now.
