Alongside Patricia Hodge, Sarah Hadland and Tom Ellis, the show proved remarkably popular with audiences and critics alike. It earned Hart a multitude of awards and nominations, including Best TV Comedy Actress at the 2010 British Comedy Awards.
This Ruth Jones and James Corden-penned sitcom followed the lives of the Shipman’s of Essex and the West’s of Barry, as they are brought together by the meeting and marriage of the show’s titular characters. Starring Kay alongside Sian Gibson, the show follows the pair as they invest in the supermarket’s car share scheme. The show won Best Male Comedy Performance (Kay) and Best Scripted Comedy at the 2016 BAFTAs. A second series began filming in May this year.
Ricky Gervais’ turn as David Brent in the defining BBC Sitcom of the early 2000s, proved immensely popular with viewers and critics alike. Pioneering the ‘mockumentary’ style of comedy, subsequently used in its American remake and shows such as Parks And Recreation, Gervais rebooted the character this year to star in a standalone movie, showing Brent’s life after the TV cameras left. For three successive years, the show won Best Situation Comedy at the BAFTAs.
Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs. Brown’s Boys first hit our screens in 2011, after many years as a stage show and a book series. Containing an ensemble cast, mainly made up of members of O’Carroll’s real life family, the show is delivered in front of a live studio audience and often features outtakes in its final cut. The show’s recent live episode, aired to coincide with the BBC’s sitcom season, saw nearly 9 million people tune in.
