Fellaini - £23 million release clause

He didn;t destroy us in midfield. He destoyed a makeshift CB playing further forward

I'd rather have a pacey more mobile player personally. Someone who can dictate the game from deep, especially for 20mill+

Macca, i said earlier he is not my first choice.

But i will welcome him with open arms if we get him. He will improve us to no end

A lot of our fans are myopic and harsh when assessing Felliani iMO. He is better than many give him credit for.

Fellaini is good but He wouldn't suit us at all. We'll need to completely change our setup to accommodate him. Plus his singing would ensure we play hoofball.
For me the one we missed out was Dembele. Absolutely cracking player. Even Sandro is a very good bet.

Moyes and Fellaini both said Fellainis best position is as a holding midfielder, so the fact he currently plays further forward right now is mute.

He has everything we require in midfield, pace aside. Strength, technique, goals, power and he has more vision than given credit for. He's be ideal alongside Carrick IMO and would also be an alternative when he is rested.

It would also allow us to play the 4 2 3 1 every craves so badly, which we tried earlier in the season and we leaked goals for fun. These two in front of the back four would allow to play a fluid attacking unit.

The final point, we have scored 13 goals from corners this season, imagine Fellaini in the box for RVP's crosses.... Not to mention that he would make up for our midget full backs in our own box.

TRC

I know he's a good player but let's be honest, it wouldn't take much to improve our midfield

If Fergie plans on spending to improve it, let's do better than MF I say

If we were to buy MF, it wouldn't be to play hoof ball. He'd be playing in the DM role in a 4231 type style

I'd still prefer to look elsewhere though

URM, who do you suggest we buy? Don't say a Modric or Wilshere because we all know they are not realistic.

Agree with that

Tbf, i think Wilshere is very realistic.

Arsenal fans might not like to hear it but last week Götze confessed to being a life-long BVB fan and was staying put next season. A week later, he joins their great rivals!

Money talks in football and the Arsenal board are very venal.

Tbh, Toure is exactly what we need, I also like Dembele but I find his form tends to be inconsistent. Martinez would be perfect but again unavailable.

Bayern have really spent well in the last couple of seasons to add to their spine.

TRC, Wilshere may be realistic in 2-3 years time, but looking at his fitness I don't think Id want to risk the £40m he'd cost right now.

Come on TRC, how would I know who is available.

If you told me this time last season we would be buying RVP I would have called you nuts

I don't think we will be buying a midfielder anyway. Sir Alex said last night Giggs will be here for two more seasons, he has Fletch back in training, He stated how good Jones is there, Ando's knees are back in working order and Clevs will be expected to kick on. Then when Giggs retires, Powell will be knocking on the door

I don't think we have played 4-2-3-1 this season.
By the way if I were to sign a CM it would be either of Dembele or Sandro over Fellaini every day of the week. Much superior footballers. No surprise that when Sandro was fit Spurs were 3rd and challenging for the 2nd spot.

Not in the true sense really ala the way Chelsea and City have

When Jones has played you could argue we have but for me 4231 is a narrow formation which doesn't utilise out and out wing play like you get with Toni for example

posted on 23/4/13

4231 could be narrow or wide depending on how the 3 operate.

The Guardian said we've shown heavy interest in Nemanja Matic, the left footed Roy Keane I call him. He impressed me in the Euro qualifier against Newcastle, and he's only 24. I'm hoping we splash the cash for him, Wanyama is another option. I'd love Cabaye too if we go for him.

posted on 23/4/13

Arab...

I like Cabaye too but tbf, he is not good enough for us. I don't see him as an improvement on what we have.

Matic is a Chelsea reject and is fairly inconsistent.

Wanyama is unproven but you never know.

posted on 23/4/13

So what if he was an ex Chelsea player TRC? He's been Benfica's top top player this season, the Portuguese media rave about him as well. He bossed Newcastle, and as for Cabaye he would add depth in midfield for us and I can see a potentially fantastic partnership with Carrick being formed.

posted on 23/4/13

Arab, Matic was rewarded with a new contract in Jan - a five year contract.

Do you honestly think SAF will splash out silly money on a player who has only showed great form in less than a year?

I would take Matic in a heartbeat as he will improve us but i am not so sure.

I personally would prefer we signed Sandro from Spurs.

Dadly he's as injury prone as Anderson

posted on 23/4/13

I wouldn't mind Fellaini but not for £23m. I know there aren't a luxury of players in the middle, but I'm sure for £23m we can look at players at a higher calibre.

posted on 23/4/13

In today's market £23 won't get you very much if we're honest. You can point at Silva and Mata, but they aren't central midfielders. Modric went for £30m+ as did Cesc.

Fellaini is a brilliant player. In a different system, something similar to everton, he would be fantastic. So unless united intends to hire Moyes....
